Why would you ever need to go that fast?
Now you know khynex is going to try it.

pulls hard up to 129. governer set at that speed (probly cause the tires are 130 MPH rated from the factory). It cruises pretty nicely at that speed!! Kept it for probly 4-5 miles before backin down to a 120

I think that he would try it regardless of what anyone here says. I hope he doesn't... I won't do it again. I was 17 once and jumped out of airplanes for a living.... how smart is that?

130. Governed to around 140 but that was plenty fast for me. Amazing how quick the 3.5 pulls to this speed.

I have a dyno where my car went 157 MPH. It was in 5th gear at about 6500 RPMs. We shut it down because my tires were speed rated at 168 MPH.

Edit: Myself (2002) and another org member (2001) have hit 148 MPH before, with room still left to go.

I hit 125 and had a lot of trouble going further... but that was back when my engine was in a bad state of tune, and my clutch is probably getting soft so I can't push it beyond that anyway (until my clutch is changed)

It is totally worth it to test your car's top speed.

I wholeheartedly recommend you do it as often as possible.

I hit 143mph (speedo) while running about a car length ahead of an Acura TL Type S on the NJ Turnpike. That was the most even matchup I ever had and was a blast. I'll never go that fast again though.

I reached 130 mph(governed) on the pa turnpike 2yrs ago. Probably very dumb but any new vehicle I test the top mph. I just have to know.

153 topped out racing a 97bmw 750iL he actually topped out at about the same speed so we both were side by side going that fast for about 45 seconds. I will never do it again.

Fastest so far is 147 out on the autobahn. Seemed to be drag limited, though I was on a very slight incline. Thing is I was still being passed by an Audi S8!!!!

Now i dont condone street driving at 130+, but that is why they make tracks... a buddy of mine is a racing instructor at a driving school near Austin and he gets track time on a regular basis. I have not taken the max out there yet, but it is definitely on the things to do list for when the weather gets cooler.

i went 568 mph, in a plane that is. i don't think it is necessary to test the cars top speed, unless you are on a track. there are many roads without any traffic, in BFE's. but animals can still come in the middle of the road, and you will be fuq'd then.

How does that work on a dyno? There is no aerodynamic drag to limit you... although I guess the dyno rollers could simulate it somehow by resisting the acceleration.

130. A lot of wind noise but otherwise it was great.. As long as there is no wind..

Fortunately i've grown out of the speed thrills at this point.. for now.

got my top speed while trying to pull on a white 4th gen max...we were next to each other on the highway and he floored it so i said what the heck and floored mine too! we were doing about 70 when we first took off, but by the time i had him by at most a car length and looked down at the speedo i was doing 125+ easy. we both backed down pretty quick but the max felt as stable at that speed as it did at 70 so it really didn't occur to me we were going that fast.

what was surprising is how quickly it got up to that speed and the car was still pulling very strong! NEVER AGAIN will i hit that speed simply because i value the priviledge of being able to drive and it's not worth it to get caught.

with these cars you definitely have to pay attention to your speed when you put your foot in it cause you can't really tell how fast you're going from feel.

Many 6 seed A33s have speed limiters, including mine, at 240km/h (149mph) which maxes out a V rated tire.
