Need a new tranny! Need some help...

I need some help finding a new 5 spd tranny for a 2k max. i thought it was the throwout bearing making noise, so i ordered a lightened flywheel and clutch. those have been installed and the noise is still there. talked to my mechanic and he said it sounds like it's a bearing in the tranny and i should replace it soon. anyone know where i can get a tranny cheap? or should i have the tranny rebuilt? any suggestions would be awesome right now. kinda low on money at this point. waiting to hear back on some jobs and just kinda doing something part time, so the least inexpensive route is what i'm looking for...thanks in advance for the help!

I have the EXACT same problem. I thought it was the throw out bearing but a mechanic said it may be "bigger". Definitely not just the clutch. I would like help on this too!

BTW, what kind of clutch and flywheel did you buy? And how much if I could ask? I'm hoping I won't spend more than $1500 on everything including fixing the stupid noise...the grinding "something-is-loose" noise.

i got in on the group deal on the fidanza flywheel, and just went with a stock clutch. i'll let you know how this set up works out for me. going to pick it up at the shop tomorrow. just had the flywheel installed today, so i haven't had a chance to drive it.
can't wait to drive it. gotta baby it for awhile though. can't be slipping the clutch anytime soon. i've spent enough and yet still have to spend more...looking forward to my next bill from the mechanic. should be a good one!

My 2K 5 speed is sitting on the lift at dealer now and they think I have a bearing problem too. What kind of noise is your tranny making? Mine is a 'wup, wup' that disappears when accelerating but very clear during coast or slowing down. Sounds like it is coming from right front wheel well.

I have an extended warranty, but it's not Nissan. If they pull it apart and the warranty inspector says no I have to eat cost. I did not think this was a tranny issue at all, figured they would tell me the noise was something else. Sounds like you guys hear grinding rather than 'wup, wup'.

That's what you paid for with the warranty.... Tell them to take care of it....

You're right--but I made the mistake of not thoroughly researching this company (USP) before buying--I bought it from the Carmax-clone dealer. I am getting what I paid for, and it's my responsibility. When the tranny fails in a clear diagnosis rather than a noise that warrants tearing it apart for a look/see, they'll take care of it then. I've still got 30K miles to go; if it were at the end of the term I'd be taking a chance.

i'm hearing a wup wup in first and second gear and the tranny wines when i'm slowing down too. so it's definitely a tranny issue. it also makes the same sound at idle until i engage the clutch.

go to car-part.com

I noticed in this thread that all the problems relate to 2000 transmissions, could the 2000 transmissions be faulty?

An update---picked up car w/o repairing anything to see if I can learn more myself. If I put the car in neutral when coasting, the wup, wup sound diminishes dramatically. At higher speeds (say 65) you can hear it, just not as loud. Still the transmission, or maybe a wheel bearing??
