2000 maxima worries...
2000 maxima worries...
Hey I am really getting worried now...i have a 2k max with 90,000 miles on it. Whoever had it before me (1 owner) babied it. I am having no problems whatsoever with the car. But I am hearing of these bearing and tranny problems (i have a 5spd) and i am moving soon and will have a 40mile each way commute. Sometimes I like to accelerate fast and beat other cars (Ok always) but i never ever burnout, powershift, drop the clutch or anything of that sort. Will hard acceleration lead to problems? and do you think ill get probs. if that car was babied? Thanks.
The reason i'm having tranny issues is from beating the hell out of the car. i totally regret doing that now, since i'm gonna be paying out the a$$ for a new tranny. if your car has been babied and you continue to drive it the way you described, you should be fine. i was way too harsh on mine...so learn from my mistakes. if you haven't had many problems yet, then don't really worry about it. regular and preventative maintenance should be enough to keep your car on the road with as little problems as possible.
Hey thanks a lot for that i feel a lot better know knowing if i treat that car right i wont have no probs... Thanks!

I have a '01 SE which I bought new almost 4 years ago. Now I have over 101K miles on her, and for the past 2.5 years I've had a daily work commute of about 90 miles.
I've never taken my car in the dealer except once for an SES light which required an ECU reprogram. Other than that, I've done my own preventive maintenance with occasional help from my mechanic buddy. So far, I've never had any major issues with the car. She still drives like a dream and is as reliable as when I first drove her off the dealer lot. I love my Maxima.
Just keep yours well cared for on a good schedule and it should last you a long time.
Peace.

I had my bearings go out at 59.5k miles and was replaced under warranty last oct. The service writer knew exactly what was happening without even looking at the car. I hear the 2001 trannys are better. They told me they put in a brand new 2001 transmission in it. I've put 20k miles on it since and it is buttery smooth with redline.
You may want to look at motorvate.ca for info about the bearings. You may want to replace the bearings and shims as a "preventative" measure.
