cleaner, conditioner, or both?
cleaner, conditioner, or both?
Confused myself at the auto parts store Saturday.
Do I want to buy separate bottles of leather cleaner and conditioner or buy one bottle that does both?
How do you prevent the liquids from filling the holes on the 2k1?
Can I use cleaner and conditioner on the vinyl sides and back of the seats?

Yes, you do want to purchase separate leather cleaner and conditioner products, especially if you'd like it to remain in excellent condition. Usually, any product that claims to do both, doesn't do them as well. This isn't true in all cases, but they tend to be a "jack of all trades", and a "master of none". Try good brands, like "Mother's" or "Meguiar's". I use "Mother's".
I have the 2000, so I can't help ya with the dimple holes. Only my steering wheel has the dimples in it, not the seats. The cleaner is a clear spray for Mother's, so no problem there, but the conditioner is kinda creamy. Just apply gentle pressure and use terry cloth towels to spread out the excess and soak it up. You can use the cleaner and conditioner on the entire seat (both front and back seats), the steering wheel, and shift **** (if it's leather). Don't use it on the simulated leather panels in the doors. Instead, use Mother's "Preserves Protectant". Use as directed and you shouldn't experience any problems. The protectant can be used on all plastic/vinyl/rubber door molding, seals, trim, dash, steering wheel (center), and center console. Hope this helps. Peace.

Leather
I use a cream conditioner from www.griotsgarage.com and it lasts for months which means less likely to fill holes in leather. But seriously, rub the cream directly on rag and then use it on headrests and center of seats in rear, this removes the extra and leaves just enough on the rag to do seating areas (pins) without filling. (actually learned that from my Ram Air T/A)
Definitely get two different products. I use PRO's leather cleaner and leather lotion. They're both great and I even use them on the vinyl parts. Killrwheels has a good idea about using the rag so that the amount left on the rag is just enough to not fill the holes, but I've heard that you waste a lot that way. I've never used a rag, so I wouldn't know, thus I just put it on my hands. Hey, if it doesn't keep the leather soft, then it sure keeps my hands soft!
Lexol
Lexol (Orange bottle) works really well, leather conditioner and cleaner. I used Meguiar's originally when detailing for my customers but found Lexol easier and much satisfying results. Lexol makes a seperate vinyl cleaner (blue bottle).
