Best Fuel Additive/Cleaner

What is a good fuel additive for the maxima. I tried Valveoline Synthetic Fuel system cleaner last week, to early to tell if it did any good. I heard people talking about BG44K. How is this? Where can I buy it, only online? Thanks

I've heard BG is the best. You can get it online or a dealer. Most Nissan dealerships don't carry their product anymore, they have Valvoline.

For a fuel system cleaner, BG44K (about $20/can) is the best I've ever used. One can of this stuff every 25K miles will do. Chevron Injector/Fuel system cleaner is also good. While you will be using the Chevron product more often, its inexpensive and available at auto part stores, megamarts, and at some supermarkets. BG products are sold at repair shops and, as of a month ago, were stocked at the upsate NY Nissan dealers. While against BG's sales policy, you can purchase BG44K on-line for about $15, or so, per can. Just search for a vendor using your favorite search engine.

Do note that your Owners Manual recommends against using fuel additives. That said, your local Nissan dealer (or any car dealer) stocks BG, Valvoline or some other brand of fuel system/injector cleaner for use by their technicians. The key is to follow the directions on the particular product you choose and not over-or misuse the product as the solvents they contain can damage fuel system components if the solvensts are in extreme concentrations (multiple cans of product in 15 gals. of gas) or in long term exposure cases (using a product every other fill up). It happens, hence the stock fuel additive warning posted in most manufacturers owners manuals.
