Funny you should ask this, I just went through some difficulties doing this yesterday.
There is a tab on one side of the male connection part. If you push this tab in and pull at the same time, it comes off nice and easy. Just trying to pull doesn't work very well. Use needle nose pliers, stick one part of the pliers in the bottom of the foglight connector (male end), stick the other part of the pliers on the side with the tab so that when you squeeze the pliers, the tab will be pushed in slightly. Then hold on to the harness, squeeze, and pull. Should come off nice and easy.

as an additional note, pretty much all the wiring parts on the maxima (and most cars) use this kind of connector.....they are similar to the connectors for the stereo, headlights, etc etc etc.....just push the tab in and pull apart.....
