So i finally get my car back from the dealer after going through 5 days of withdrawal and i decide to take it out on Sunset Blvd near UCLA (one of my fave driving spots). I come up to a light with a 2.8 A4. he's talking on the cellphone and i look over. he knows i'm there. somewhere between that and the light changing, he gets off the phone and we go. light turns green and i gun and so does he. whooohooo!!! i'm in the leadup to about 55mph on sunset and i totally dust him. we come up to another red light and it's on.... ohhh... it's on. the light on the cross street turns green and he even has a false start. finally, the light turns green. we both take off and i'm about a couple cars ahead of him. and i'm smiling all the way until this pretty sharp turn to the left... what was going on ?!?! my tires SUCK! i'm screeching all the way through and the A4 doesn't even make a single noise on the turn. he then takes me to school and with all the adrenaline going through my blood, it being my first REAL race and fear of getting my #3 ticket, i slow down. i tried a for some more but my tires are just not sticking to the road--i was practically about to drift if i went any faster or if i pulled on my Ebrake...

so my question is, what just happened back there? was that a kill? did i get killed?

oh, in case you didn't catch that, this was my first REAL street race. some of you know i've been dying to find a person to race me and my stockie (will be no longer stockie come next weeeeeek!)

<ahem>... so again, what happened??

Sounds like if you are going to be doing that, you need at least a RSB and some springs for good measure. Those smaller, more agile cars will just eat up a Max in turns, unless you get a FSTB, RSB, and some springs. Then, it is different.

Watch it. Around there is Dead Man's Curve. You know form the Jan and Dean song? The place really exists. The actual section is Sunset, west from Groverton, across from Drake Stadium.

Draw I guess. But it's hard to compete w/ the Quattro drive system in the turns.

oh, i was find along that stretch. it was the part past Hilgard going more into Beverly Hills area that killed me. I'm on the stretch between Veteran and Hilgard pretty regularly (driving roommates to class), but that part after Hilgard is pretty unfamiliar to me. sux. shoulda known my territory better..

since my FSTBs coming this week, i should be a little bit better. when i want to replace tires, what kind do you guys recommend? ratings, etc., etc., ... i've got the 16", btw.

stickier 17" or 18" tires + FSTB + RSB = you will do a lot better than you did. I don't know if you would be able to hang with a quattro A4, but maybe?

Yeah, the Quattro AWD system is amazing. I test drove an A4 with it and floored it through a huge puddle of water on an exit ramp that banked left and the car did *NOT* budge!! I can't imagine what would've happen if I did that in a Max. I guess the A4 also has much better stock tires than the BLOWtenzas...
