Upgrading the Bose...what can you do to it?

I kinda like the 6 disc changer, although I may spring for an mp3 player sometime soon. How easy is it to change out the head unit? Do I have to replace the speakers too? Am I better off just replacing the whole system?

Also, I have a 400 watt amp that is 4 channel laying around, can I replace the stock amp with it?

You are better off replacing the whole system, the Bose speakers run on a different Impedence than almost all aftermarket speakers. To get the best sound, I'd replace the head unit, get new speakers, and amp them

Once you change out the Bose system the controls on the steering are usless correct? I am asking as I don't know. I would love to get a MP3 player in there but would hate to loose the controls on the steering wheel.

There's something you can get to make your steering wheel audio controls work with an aftermarket system. I remember reading/hearing about it somewhere just can't remember right now.

edit: I don't think you need to change out all the speakers. Take a look at this item on Crutchfield.

Yeah, its like a hundred bucks or something. I decided it wasn't worth it for me, becuase my head unit came with a wireless remote, so I just hold that in mt right hand, and drive with my left. But if yuo want the controls to work, you'll need it.

you can do any of your options...change out the whole thing, change just the head unit or just cahnge out the speakers and sub like me.....you'll need the pac if your going to change out only one of the items. if you decide to change the whole thing out then you can just run rcas and what not.

So if I change out the stock amplifier with mine, it will work fine?

I love the look of stock units, I love the 6 disc changer feature... I hate the fact that the left side cuts out and I hate the fact the CD's will skip because "there's too much condensation" I actually liked the way the stock Bose sounded. But the cutting out annoyed me to no end.

Well the changer is nice but I was used to a better setup in my old car. If I wanted to put in a 12" that is in a box, could I wire in the second amplifier and hook that up to the 12?

what is this pac???? Does it allow the use of aftermarket speakers with the factory head unit? Where can I get one?
