Help with 2000 Maxima!
Hey guys (and girls),
My girlfriend's dad has a 200 Maxima GLE with Automatic transmission. A while ago his Check Engine light came on. The car still runs ok..it runs a bit rougher with the light on. Recently he finally took it in to a 76 station who said that his Oxygen sensor needed to be replaced. So they replaced it. About 4 days later the light came back on and then he failed emissions. The emissions guy did something and had my g/f's dad drive 5 miles at 45 mph, 55, 65...etc. The light went off and he passed emissions, but he expects it to come back on in a few days. If it DOES, what do you all think the problem could be? Unfortunately I don't have the CEL codes so I can't look it up online.
Has anyone else experienced this problem at all? Thanks for any advice.

4 O2 sensors eh? Ok, that may explain it. Thanks. I'll suggest that and see if he only got 1 or more than 1 replaced. If anything comes about it, I'll come back here and seek your guidance again. Until then...thank you.

the procedure you described, drive at 45 for a mile, etc is the nissan recomended ecu reset, it puts the car in a different loop setting that is made specifically for passing emissions, just because the light disappeared and it is running fine now does not mean it will forever. There could be an O2 sensor that's periodically sending signals outside of the ecu's parameters, that will send a code, i would recomend having the codes read and work from there, since any old code will be stored even if the light has gone off you should be able to find what originally went to make the light go on.
