The best sound deadener...

So I'm drivin on tha highway with my stereo off. Try it sometime. This car is NOISY! Its comin from the road, and i have new great tires, not the case. Its the road, HUUUMMMMM. I gotta soundproof. Home depot guys, speak up!! Where and with what should I spray on. This would be a worthwhile mod.

Dynamat Extreme is the only option I could think of. If you dynomat ur whole car, from floor board to doors and trunk, it will be heavier so you might lose performance. Another alternative which is lighter but not as sound deadening is peel and seal. Actually, best place to post this is in the car audio forum.

Anybody have experience with the spray on type undercoating? I was thinking of using it in the doors.

The sound is road noise. So loud i did think it was coming from tha speakers but the radio was off! I'm lookin for something to lower noise from the wheel wells and floorboard by the pedals, and anywhere else someone can recommend. The doors arent bad, no wind noise.

I've used Dynamat before and it works well but will cost you if your going to do the floors, doors and trunk. I would think that a rubberized undercoating would also kill some of the road noise. If you try it, let us know how well it surpressed the noise.

I think irish44 used some undercoating type spray on the plastic front fender liner. He removed the liner and sprayed the top of it (opposite the wheel side) then reinstalled it.

Dynamat works well and will also make your car lighter by removing a lot of cash from your wallet. Check out Brown Bread or Home Depot Peel 'n Seal.

If your tires are old they may be making a lot of noise as well.

Look for Raammat 60 on eBay. User ID "RAAM". This stuff is better than Dynomat extreme, and 1/3 the price. Covered my wifes explorer with 130 sq.ft. of the stuff. It applies easily, adheres very well, and really cuts down on noise. He doesn't have any listed at the moment, but he usually does. Brown Bread is supposed to be good too.

This is what I did.....doesn't really help road noise all that much, just makes it less noisy when driving down a dirt road or through gravel...

Thanks, Polo. Looks like what you did involves a lot of prep work! I may try that stuff, but maybe just spray it through the speaker hole. Just taking the plastic off the door looks like a project in itself. Did you re-mount the plastic before putting the door back together?

So Polo, when you sprayed that, you did the inside of the door skin also? or is that just spray-through? Any worries about it getting into the window track or anything?

Did it work: well this is hte best that i can use to explain the difference. i only did hte front doors. shortly after i did this, i started noticing road noise coming from the back. was it always there? i don't know, but it stood. to me, that means the front was noticably quieter that the rear stood out. door seems to close firmer.

yes i put the plastic back on. i actually sprayed the door, the inner skin, the door panel, and both sides of the plastic. i just used up the whole can on the door. i have 2 more cans coming in that will coat the entire rear bumper.

window track was covered up before any work was done. all i did was stuff newspaper in the areas i didn't want sprayed and then start sprayin all up in that *****. while i was at it, i also covered the speaker with dynamat extreme and covered the back wall of the door skin right behind the speaker with Cascad Deflex pads.....it's basically a VERY VERY VERY soft material that is shaped round with ripples in it. designed so that sound waves coming out of hte speaker and hitting he door will bounch back in a smoother matter, thus allowing better sound quality. does it work? i dunno, but it's those little things that matter in car audio.
