Good stuff...
This reiterates the notion that Maxima will have a new engine in 2002 (trade-in central).
Also, note that Infiniti's six models "won't include all the current models." The comments about differentiating Infiniti from Nissan makes it a sure bet that I30 goes away and the G20 has GOT TO GO.
Clearly slating the Altima to go up against the Camry and Accord leaves the Maxima in a funny place, don't you guys think? With Infiniti carrying the luxury flag for Nissan and Altima going up against the leading sedans in the market...what is Maxima? Low-end competition for luxury cars? Or, wouldn't we all love it to become a car enthusiast's performance vehicle.
Thanks for posting the link.

Interesting reading.....
That was a good article and provided some interesting perspectives. Nissan had better hope that the '02 Altima is as popular as they expect. It's certainly a nice looking car and should have excellent performance but price will play a crucial role in determining how successful it will be. It will be interesting to see how things play out in the next year or so.

Should be an interesting next few years for Nissan/Infiniti.
If it were my company, I would kill the Altima all-together, add a few inches to the Maxima and a more powerful engine. This would make the Sentra and Maxima much more competitive in their respective classes and also you save money by cutting out a production line. Then completely differentiate the I30 (I35) from Maxima, thus increasing sales of Infiniti's entry level market. And yes, killing the G20 would be a must.

I agree RMCoolX, keep the sentra, make a high perf version for the civic/integra racers, a cheapo version for the Ford Focus buyers. Keep the max, give it an optional engine in the SE and GLE, make a high performance version of the max.
I think the Altima competes with the max. If they bump the max up, then it competes with the Infiniti's. It's all good for Nissan, but they want people to purchase the more expensive car.
