Front end woes.......
Front end woes.......
This past weekend, I started noticing a very distinct vibration in my front passenger wheel. Thinking that I had busted a belt in the tire, I replaced the front tires, but the problem persists. You don't notice the vibration below about 40 mph but at highway speeds, it is pretty bad. I have however noticed that when turning to the right, the problem subsides, regardless of speed. As soon as the steering wheel is straightened, the problem returns. Any ideas what this could be??? Tie rod? Possibly a control arm? Please help!
I know that the lugs are tight, and my from end could use an alignment, but it is not bad at all. So I guess that the wheel bearing thing could be the problem. Any ideas on what it should cost to have it fixed, and what would be involved?

Or does this have something to do with me rotating the tires?
rzayas144,
Sounds like you have had a similar problem. How did you know for sure that it was a bearing, and not some other problem? Running a little low on cash right now, and don't wanna spend a lot on diagnostics. Thanks!

Jack up the front end.
Grab you wheel on the top and bottom and push/lift. If there's any play (up and down) then you have a bad bearing.
If it just started, then there's a chance that only the bearing is bad. With time it'll ruin the hub. You could do it yourself and have a machine shop to press the bearing for you.

Also, with the car jacked up put your left hand on one of the coils of the spring. with your right, spin the wheel. If the bearing is bad, you will be able to feel it through the spring, as if the wheel is rotating with sand inside of it....
Don't forget, wheel bearings ARE covered under the 5/60 powertrain warranty.
I have had one replaced, and from the labor (1.7 hrs) and part ($90), it would have been a $200 job at the dealership. I have another one going out now. It does shake steering wheel at highway speeds (it is on front) and sounds much like unbalanced tire. I had tires rotated and balanced today, with no change to symptoms. The noise is loudest at 20 MPH and quieter at 60MPH. It sounds like a loud roar, especially when braking down through 20 MPH (It sounds same if I take foot off brake pedal).
