Smog test FAILed questions

I failed my smog test today because of my check engine light (P1320), and I was wondering if I could just reset it and take it in since the coils go bad intermittently. The smog tech said that I couldn't do that because the smog computer could detect that I reset it recently and would fail me again. He said something about the car doing a self test on itself and that I had to drive it for several days if I fixed it myself for me not to fail again. I wanted to verify if this was true since I've never heard of anything like that. Also, if there is a self test done by the car's comp, how many miles does it take for the car to complete a test. Please let me know. I don't want to pay a mechanic a gajillion to have the coils replaced when I can probably do it for the price of the coils. THANKS!

the tech BS'ed you. Actually, I had the same exact thing with mine. I reset the code and went to the mechanic to do the test. It wouldn't do it, because their computer gets the info and knows that you just reset the ECU. I had to drive for about 30-40 minutes. Came back with no code and passed right away. So if you do it a few days before you go again and no code appears by the time you go - you should be fine.

Curious, but which code is that one? I have my ses light for that o2 sensor which still needs to be reflashed (due to the o2 tsb glitch). So if my SES light is on for whatever reason they will fail me? I hate cali laws! I swear, shouldn't it only mater if you pass emmissions anyways?

P1320 Ignition Control Signal Fault

unplug the battery and see if it comes back.

if it does, they wont let you smog check until you remove the code.

unless you can prove that your engine code is not emission related.

O2 sensor is emission related. If you unplug the battery and plug it in, does the code come back right the way?
