Car stalling problem - HELP!!!
Hey guys, I need some help diagnosing a sporadic stalling problem that I have with my 2000 Nissan Maxima SE 5spd. Every once in awhile while idling the car for a long time the dash lights go dim, trouble lights come on the dash, and the car stalls and is unable to restart (dead battery). While this is happening, if you lightly feather the throttle, the lights get brighter, and the trouble lights go away. However, if you over rev the car (3500rpm and above) - the lights go dim again and the car tries to die. I automatically think that the alternator is going on the car... BUT this problem only happens sporadically - like once every 2 months. I've replaced the battery twice now, so I've ruled out that possibility. What else could it be? Loose belt? There are no weird noises indicating a loose belt OR dead bearings in the alternator. Anyone have any ideas?
