Help w/ exhaust

Hey whats sup guys im a new member here and i have a few questions. I drive a 2003 SE automatic. So far i have an ECU chip, new headers, a injen intake, and a few parts i have taken out of the engin(will post pics soon) but im looking for some help on exhaust kits! I have a friend w/ a prelude who has the evo 2 kit but it sounds so ricy. I also have a friend w/ a WRX who has an HKS exhaust kit and it sound like an absolute beast. Im wondering if anyone knows how an evo2 would sound on a max, if there are better kits, and if i could custom rig an HKS on my max or just ANY suggestions anyone has thanks a ton and your help is greatly appericiated.

Welcome to Max.org. I have seen and heard different exhausts on max's and they do sound different. The ones that usually have that low rumbelin supra sound I have heard were all from Magnaflow. Others sound ricy, others quiet. What sounds good is in opinion of the listiner, I too wish which exhaust I would like. But i dont really know...

If you don't mind me asking, what ECU chip do you have and did it really make a difference? I can't wait to get my headers and everything else but I'm gonna install everything all at once instead of one at a time

Check this out.... http://www.waveperformance.com/mufflerclips/muffler.htm it might be of use to you....

With regards to cat-backs, many people here like the Cattman cuz its stainless, has good fitment, and isn't too loud yet has a nice tone to it... I'm not sure about Frankencar, but it seems pretty close to that.... both those are dual tipped as well, which also seems to be a popular choice.

I have a Greddy Evo, which many people dislike cuz they think it sounds ricey, but I like the way it "rumbles" and I like the way the tip looks. I might be getting a y-pipe soon, so I might actually go back to the stock muffler or a new midpipe with a better resonation cuz I hear the Evo is really loud with a y-pipe or headers.

As for mufflers, there are a million out there, so you're just gonna have to do your homework....

i could for sure tell a difference in my car once i got my ECU chip. Its jet ( http://www.customenterprise.com/view.../vts/design004 ) I would recomend getting it as your last upgrade because after i got my BPU i sent the chip back w/ a list of upgrades and they were able to customize my chip. Its great...now all i need is an exhause! And gooey do you know where i could get some pips that could work w/ a max?

Its all subjective man, ricey to me might not be ricey to you. I personally do not think its ricey at all.

Check this clip out and maybe you'll get a better idea... http://home.comcast.net/~nathan.day/...reddysound.mpg

how does it sound at lower speeds and in stop and go traffic, and are those clips of it accelerating?

The first part was idling and after that it sounded like it was doing runs or something, so yes, it was accelerating.

I actually forgot to mention that it drones when you're between 2000-2500 rpms, regardless of speed, which I can deal with, but some others can't. Unless I'm trying to save gas, I cruise between 2700-3000 rpms anyway, in most gears....

At lower speeds, and any speed, the sound will depend on what gear you're in.... cuz as I mentioned above, it depends on the rpms and not the speed.

does the exhaust get at all throatier as you add more upgrades, say deeper on a max w/ intake and nice headers as compared to stock?

This was in the FAQs with regards to sound levels with a y-pipe added... I think it'll be a similar situation with headers....

Cool! Thanks for the info. I'll definitely save this upgrade till the end just so my ECU can compensate for the extra air coming in and stuff.

Cattman exhaust components provide a nice rich deep tone and are a very good high quality product. May be a bit pricey for some, but IMO, it's well worth it. Welcome aboard

Hey SEmy2K2go, I was just looking at your muffler install pics... how'd you get the car high enough to get the mufflers in/out? For one, it looks like you have it jacked up right around the axle... was that high enough to just wiggle it out, or did ya have to disassemble more stuff to get it out?

I have two sets of 3 1/2 ton stands which are a bit larger sized than say 2 or 2 1/2 ton stands. They were pretty much completely extended and positioned on the axles as you mentioned.

Btw, tough loss for them Buckeyes this past weekend... but I'm sure y'all will do your best to ruin whatever season we have left... on November 20th...
