I need my interior to look white.......

Hello guys,

I have a 2000 SE,I swap all my interior to white except my gauge culster.

For the guages i used the #74 white led's hopping to be white, but the #74 white led turn my guages into blue color.

Now the question is ,dose the guage culster from 4th gen SE fit on 5th gen SE.I mean just plug and play.?

no, that will not work. im pretty sure of it anyway. i have the same problem.. but there is a way to fix it! but it does require taking the needles off the gauges. let me know if you want me to explain further.

yeah, i know what you mean on that one. i must have taken apart my gauges 7 time so far. lol.

the reason why you gauges look blue, even though you put in white bulbs is because of a couple of diffrent reasons.

1.) do not use the #74 bulbs. they are a very small, low power led, and add to the blue tint to the gauges, not help. i tried them, and hated it. i took them out, and installed 12,000 mcd leds in the place of the #72, and they look much better, but i still saw blue! the reason why is below.

2.) after looking very closely at the gauges, i found out why. from the factory, nissan applied a thin coat of a blue tint to the back of the gauge face plate. i am guessing that it makes the bulbs look better... but it hinders the look for obtaining a pure white. what you need to do is:

1a) take of the needles.
2b) remove the gauge faceplate
3b) lightly sand way the "blue" ting on the back of the face plate
4b) put all back together

for a better effect, and since you have everything already apart, you should do the install the correct way, by installing the leds in "key" places within the gauges. find the best places taking consideration of the light chanels, and plug them in before returning to the car to check for hot spots.

g/l... it is not an easy or fast project, but take you time, and you will be fine.

Thanks blkmax95c you are the best.

Its killing me ,this is the third time i take it apart just for the same led (every time i use new led not the same one).

And me too i have no issues with the other leds .Its just that F%$^g led.Every time i say i'll make sure i do it good so i don't have to take apart ,but still.

BTW ,do you have pic of your leds i need the inside of it.And if it is possible the one under the fan switch.

Again thanks for your time.

Hey, this is true. I took mine apart, and the "SE" gauges do have a tint on the back of them to restrict the amount of light emitting thru them except the letters and numbers. This, in turn, makes it hardly possible to make the gauges brighter. I tried the super bright #74 bulbs and they turned out worse than the stock ones. Very dull and blue. I even shined a #194 bulb behind the gauge and it still didn't look any brighter. This is where Nissan gives its "SE" gauges as "sport-like" gauges. As far as the Infiniti gauges, those are "luminescent" lighting gauges, meaning they are totally different than conventional lighting (bulbs). They are almost like indiglo gauge lighting. As far as swapping the 4th gener to the 5th gener, I harldy think it's plug-in-play. Totally different wiring and senders. I wouldn't try it unless you know if all the wiring is the same. I'm surprised you guys don't change those ugly green led's of the transmission indicators in your gauge cluster. It looks much better, IMHO.

Thanks man!

if it is the thrid time that is is going on, you may want to look deeper into the problem. it may also be the way you wired them, or you solder connections are toughing something else, or some other factor. but i will most likely think it is the connection. when you took it apart, could you see that it was no making contact? and did you test the led once you took it out to put a new one in? test as in... hook up 3.3v to the led OR hook up 12v with the resistor on the led to see if it still works. if it still does, then you just knocked off one posible issue. let me know how you make out.

hmmm... pics of that project? i really don't think i did. i did that project when i fiberglassed my tv in my car, so i took more pic of the tv then the led project. i will look for some though.... i may be mistaken.

BustaReims -- yes, it is. i want mine to look like that. someday.

trail and error my friend. install it, and see if it works. if not, then switch the polaritys around. depending on what your working on, you may have to do it to all of the leds, or just one to figure out the scamatics (sp) of the board.

and make sure you have extra fuses. chances are you will blow some, if you are going the trial and error way. this actually happened to someone here on the org, not very long ago

there is no way he blew a fuse by installing the led backwards. the led will just not light up. he had to do something else to blow a fuse. there have been coutless times i have installed leds backwards (both lots of leds, and just one led.)
