Oil impregnated air filters.

I am concerned about the continued use of my installed K & N air filter after reading a warning in the owner's manual for a 96 Ford Taurus. It states........ "use of an oil impregnated air filter can void the warranty and cause engine damage". The Taurus uses the standard "hot wire" MAF sensor like we have on the Maxima and I assume the "damage" is probably in reference to the MAF sensor . I used a K & N filter for years in my in my previous car, but it used the MAP system. (no MAF sensor) I have had the K & N in the Maxi for about 6 mos. now with no problem. I think the problem arises from an over oiled filter "spitting" oil droplets onto the sensor's "hot wire". So I may just chicken out and put in the stock paper one again. Thought I would pass this on.

Switch to the OEM filter and sell your K&N on eBay.

I've been using my K&N filter on my 02 since the car was brand new. It never gave me
any problems. My nissan dealer sells them as replacement air filter along with oem brand.
Most if not all nissan dealership shouldn't void the warranty if they sell them themselves.
You can clean the filter and use the recharge kit and lightly oil the filter. It works for me.
Good luck in whatever you do.

I have used K&N for 3 years and nothing bad yet.... "knock on wood", ask the dealer if you are having second thoughts about it..... it should be fine....

I feel like I've posted this a million times....

Anyways, I had a K&N for 30K miles and it gave me no problems whatsoever. Dealership never gave me crap about it either....

The stock OEM air filter is oil impregnated as well. K&N's work fine, just don't over oil them

Its a reason to deny warranty claims for $hitty products

I've had K&N in my ford for 120K and in my max for 30K with no problems.

I once over oiled my K&N so much I though I had a tranny leak because there was red oil under the car. 100K later the ford runs strong.
