Ok guys, I got a hold of the HKS exhaust dyno sheet from HKS. It showed some very impressive gains on a stock Maxima SE 5 speed. 181 to 193 on HP and 171 to 178 on torque from just the rear section alone!!! I wonder what a Y Pipe and intake would do?

Don't shoot the messenger on this one, I know there will be a lot of you with comments on this. I just got it to share.

I'm still debating on keeping it, I drove it on the highway today and it felt real good.

I don't believe that at all.

+10 HP from just the rear section, and 8lb of torque?

HAHAHHAHAHAHAH. !!

HKS is trying very hard to make money.

I'll believe it when one of us gets it dynoed at a shop.

Are you sure? 12hp just from rear section???This is unheard in aftermarket industry despite on turbocharged/SCed cars!!!

I still have doubts on this one, Anyone???

I do feel the power increase especially on pickup. The source that did the testing is very reputable, so I really don't think that they were playing with the numbers.

I wish I had dyno'd my car before intake and exhaust though. As even if I dyno it now, I don't have a base number to go off of.

I dunno ... it agrees with P. 58 of the Apr-01 Import Tuner mag ...

According to Import Tuner ... the HKS exhaust "over the GT-R bred OE exhaust" churched out 190 HP @ the wheel with 179.6 TQ ... a gain of 5.3 HP & 4.4 lb-ft of tq ... so

The weird thing is that dyno sheet indicates a significantly larger gain ... much more than 5.3 HP & 4.4 TQ ...

Sounds like alot of bull here too. HKS used to be great for my Mazda and turbo parts but what are they doing for the Nissan Maxima? Their mod list could fit inside a matchbook cover.

I'm not arguing, but wasn't the Import Tuner dyno a full cat-back? The guys at HKS said that they didn't come out with the full cat-back b/c they couldn't make more power than the rear section alone.

I don't know conspiracy or not, I think that the exhaust looks hot, especially if you look directly into the pipes. Check out the pictures I posted before on another thread. Besides, we're not talking about S/C performance. Exhaust is mainly looks and sound, so I'm not too worked up over the exact numbers.

Are you gonna tell us how much it costs and where you purchased it?

Sorry posted the info on the site with pictures. Got it from Stillen and referenced that I saw some other person from maxima.org got it for $399. Gave it to me for that. I think list is in the high $400's.

u r right ... Import Tuner's car had a cat-back exhaust ... then ... that makes the Dyno sheet u posted even less credible?

What a joke !!!

There isn't a rear section manufactured on this planet that could produce the kinds of results over stock that HKS is claiming. And the fact that HKS is willing to make such a distorted claim puts their credibility as a company and the credibility of their products seriously in doubt!

Well first of all, the dyno sheet was the sheet that was made for production not for promotion. It wasn't really meant to pump up their products.

Oh well, it looks and sounds good and I do notice more power with it. So who knows.

If that's the case, a smart company wouldn't have released it and held themselves up for ridicule.

I thought stock 5spd maximas is dynoed at 190hp to the wheel, so how can HKS's prototype 5spd stock maxima only ran 181 hp stock???

So, it above claims werer true, it is only making the same HP as Stock 5spd maxima..??

Unless they were testing in different gear than some of the members on the board have dynoed their cars in

Anyway, still hard to believe the results..It just doesn't make sense to me...!!!Where is GREDDY CAT-BACK???

I think they used the baseline for an automatic Maxima. It is more in line with the auto figures than the 5spds.

Madmax2k and I both have 2k 5spd and stock they dyno'd 190 to the wheels. The variation between them was so small that I would be shocked if another fed-spec 2k dyno'd that low stock. Is yours cali emissions?

If you use the 190 figure compared to their 193 then you've got a 3 hp gain which is possibly realistic.

BUT, I don't think their 193 is realistic. See that blip at high rpms? That is because they didn't smooth results. The blip is caused when fuel-cut is hit. It looks like it equals 3hp or so. FWIW.

Then it's pretty impressive that they got an auto 5th gen maximas to have 181hp stock to the wheel..Paul only dynoed his car at 160hp to the wheel stock..still doesn't make sense!!!

Really. That's like a 28% loss - wow. I was thinking 20% loss. And, that 181 is probably 3-4 hp too high because of the blip.

Anyway. it is a bunch of bs.
