The next 2 months or so are going to be devoted to my stereo. now my head unit (7in touch screen) and internals aren't the problem thanks to my Best Buy discount. Neither is getting a sub or amps etc. etc. My only problem is what to do to make it look real nice. Im going to have a 12 inch JL W7 and i was really looking to invert it. But i dont know what im going to do for a custom box.....please post any imput as to a custom box for an invert or just post pics of whatever u guys have done so maybe i can get some ideas going on.... thanks alot!

Best thing would be to go off the JL Audio specs when constructing the enclosure. Once you have the demensions needed, you can configure the box to your liking.

Yeah, you'll get the best from ur JL with the box size they recommend. btw, usually they are huge.

Why would you do that with a w7 sub? That is not recommended. It's not a free air sub.

To each his own, but I'd prefer to see the cone movement of that monster.

Actually, It doesn't matter if you mount the sub conventionally, or inverted. The purpose of putting a woofer in an enclosure is to separate the front and rear waves from cancelling each other. Just remember that if you invert, you don't need to take into account the displacement of the magnet. Sealed or ported....it all matters what type of sound you want. Ported plays louder, but the box is bigger. Ported sounds cleaner, and box is smaller. I'd say take advantage of the fact that our cars have a ported rear deck from the manufacturer and build a ported box and vent it through the rear deck like I did. If you don't have the factory BOSE system, you can buy the oem grill from Nissan. ( About $30 ...I think ). Looks stock and serves a purpose. I went conventional mounting with (2) 10W3 ported throught the rear deck. I'm using an Xtant 6.1. Hope that helps a little. It all depends on what your ultimate goal is...sound quality or sound quantity. Happy Booming!

You know what, I never did take any photos. There's not much to see. I've got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X879 ( Hide away face ), A/D/S 645im ( coaxial mounted separates in the front door. ), Memphis Audio 6.5" coaxes ( don't laugh, they were free, in the rear doors ), an Xtant 4.4 ( under the driver seat, bi-amp to run the front doors ), and an Xtant 6.1 ( under the passenger seat , bridged to run the ( 2) JL Audio 10W-3 in a ported box in the trunk. My car didn't come with the BOSE system, but I bought the grill from Nissan and cut out the rear deck to vent the box. I also had a custom " Beauty Board " built so that the speakers are not visible, but a circular grill covers the opening around the two speakers. ( Does that make sense? ) I was trying to go for the " As stock as possible look. " I'll try and post pics later. Thanks

Yea my car doesnt come with bose either. I have 3 10" MTX's right now and was thinking of getting the grill. so wait your saying you cut the hole out for the grill and have the speakers in the trunk hiding from being visible and grill covers on the speakers? ...dont really understand, hopefully you can get some pictures up so i can refer to them for some ideas. if you need space, i'll gladly host it for a few days/week. just let me know

quick idea if you keep your trunk clean. im in a 00 and took my setup out cause im looking for a 02-03. place a beauty wall infront of your sub, if it faces out the trunk. i have 3 12" jl in a custom enclosure, customed to my trunk size. the box isnt as high so the beauty wall is there to run along contour interior of your trunk. simple but nice. cant wait to switch so i can reinstall it. big bass and my mb quarts match with clarity.

How you going to invert a W7? They have an unusual mounting system. If you are determined to show off the basket and magnet use plexi.
