pinging when i hit the gas

whats up i have a 2000 SE auto, it has 42k on it. OK when i hit the gas and i gfo over 3500RPM i sometimes get a pinging noise in the enigine it does it when the car is warm or cold, so i am thinking theres a problem, i have a warranty until 83k i was wondering if i shoudl take it back to the dealer i am sure if its an engine problem they will cover it under warranty but i was wondering if maybe its just the timing? also in my passenger axle i am getting a clicking noise. any help would be much appriciated thanks in advance

stop using cheap gas. use 93 octane like it says in the owners manual. and it even says it on the inside of the fuel tank door (as a last chance for you to realize it)

In recent months I've noticed my 2002 Maxima pinging from time to time, but it's only under really light throttle and it's VERY subdued, not a major thing. Have 42K on car.

I've only heard it recently and only on quiet roads, if the stereo is turned off and the windows are rolled up.

Here in CA we only get 91 Octane gas and it's crap on top of that because of
our stricter emissions and supposedly we have a different formula of gas...(which I think is another crock of shiite by the crooked oil industries.

I may have just gotten a bad tank of gas or two.
Or maybe, like I sometimes think...the gas stations put 89 octane in the 91 octane
tank underground, and then reap the benefits of the extra money they are making
from selling it at 91 octane price, even though it's not.

Yep...I've had three maximas, an my first one pinged because I use cheap unleaded. Now I use only premium fuels. Also get you a can of BG44K an pour it in with some chevron supreme 93. Give your system a good cleanout. Proly wouldn't hurt to change your spark plugs also!!

deiz2k...The dealer will probably tell you that the pinging is normal. Then again, if you engine falls out onto the I75, they will probably tell you that is normal as well. You might have some luck getting your clicking noise fixed. Could be a bearing or cv joint. Is it only when you are turning?

PPS...I love that I have a smiley named after me.

I got an email about this thread and, quite frankly, the political rhetoric was WAY out of line. This is a forum about a car, not your views about supporting/disliking the current president. If I see another post on the subject, this thread will be locked and deleted. In addition, if anyone posts one more remark on the vein of your Driver72's outburst, I will not hesitate to ban the offender. Consider this the first and only warning on the subject.

It is normal for your engine to fall out, just like it was normal when my door fell off...

BG44K is not crap. Your car obviously has other problems.

My 2000 started pinging and there was loss of power right around 3300 RPM. I had the original MAF, and finally had it replaced under warranty. The car only threw the MAF SES code when I caused it intentionally; the only way I could get the dealer to replace under warranty. This forum is excellent--problem gone after replacement. These 2000's can be tricky--coils and MAF can be funky yet not cause SES....
