Steering wheel shake/vibration

When my 2000 i30 gets to about 50 and above the steering wheel starts to vibrate/shake. Once you get to about 60+ the entire car starts to vibrate along with the steering wheel. What are the possible causes of this? My front tires were just balanced and are pretty new. The problem seems to be getting worse.

alignment? If you have a Firestone near you I would suggest doing it there. they have a life time one for $120 I think. most other places charge you $50-$70 and it is good for 90 days -6 months usually.

Might not be your prob though.

Wheel bearings?

I found out that my problem, with similar symptoms to yours, was a result of uneven tread wear.... this was only an issue after a tire rotation... after 5000 miles of the shakes I rotated my tires again and its gone... but I could be making the wrong assumption here as to the cause of my problem....
