dash removal
#1
I know people have removed the dash to change the stock stereo and i did searches on the topic, but could someone PLEASE post some info to ease the removal (maybe include tips on how exactly they accomplished it) of the dash.
ive tried to remove the center vents (which i read in a earlier post), but im still at a loss and little nervous about the whole thing cause i dont wanna have a ruined looking dash. any help would be appreciated.
thank you in advance

Search for details, here's the short of it:
1. remove the cup from your ashtray
2. pry up the trim around your shifter, if its an auto you'll need to get the shift lock disengaged so don't do this while driving
3. pull the vent above the stereo out (if you have bose or the mid level radio, for GXE... I dunno) its kinda tough you want to pull up and out... some people have mentioned screws holding it in.. mine had none.
4. There are 4 screws holding in the stereo and climate controls, undo them
5. extract the stereo and replace you can either use the crutchfield kit or buy the GXE a/c ventilator kit if you don't have a gxe already
use search to find pictures as well
good luck!

2. if it's a stick, reach inside the shifter cover area to pull trim out.
3. be careful with a screwdriver if you try to pry it out... even one covered with cloth... I almost made a permanent mark on the paneling around the vents...No screws on the SE. Like Punkdork says, it's tough to pull out...
Up first, then straight out.

One more thing...
I didn't see it mentioned, and I'm pretty sure it's important - don't pull up on the trim around the shifter until you've removed the screw that's under the ashtray cup. If you forget this, you may damage the shifter trim. By the way, pull up on the part of the shift trim closest to the rear of the car first, workin your way toward the front/top of the trim. Good luck.

you say to get the vents out you have to pull up first. how far up do you pull? how big of a gap should there be between the vents and the stereo before i can start pullin straight out? less than an inch, or more? thanks again
