Original Tint % with 2003 SE?

Hi,

With my recent summons, it looks like I will have to take off the tints

I remember not liking too much the stock look. Would you remember what the original tint % is on my model. I'd like to see if I could add any tint at all to the car.

Thanks!

Hi,

Does that mean that I should not be putting any tints then?

If that's the case, that sucks!!

Hi,

So which is it - 95% or 75%?

So if it is 95%, do they even make tints that would bring it to 70%?

Thanks!

Sounds like you want some of the sun blocked, but don't want to have dark windows. Go with a 45% tint. I really dought you'll notice anything with a 70%, plus I don't think any tint shops can even do it that high. My mom has 35% smoke tint on her car and it isn't dark at all.

Hi,

On my summons, it said that I had 28% in the front and 13% in the back. That's the way I liked it, but it looks like I can't have that.

I'm hearing that even 35% is illegal, that it has to be 70%. I just want the darkest possible without getting trouble.

So any ideas for sure what the original tint is?

Let me know,
Thanks.

A 35% all the way around should be ok. Depends how **** the cops are. But if you really wanna play it safe, 50% all around will show a little bit & the cops won't say ****.

Hey,

I think I will be posting this as a new topic...

Went to the precinct today, and here is what they said. And this not only applies to those living in new york, but those who are DRIVING through new york.

70% of light transmittance on all windows if your car is classified as a sedan older than 1992. 1991 and older cars can have 30% (sounds ridiculous no?!). Cars designated as suburbans (4x4's, van's, etc.) can have whatever they want for the rear, and 30% for the fronts.

Only way out of this is to have a medically diagnosed skin condition.

This is first hand from an officer at the precinct.

SUcks!!

And also since new york is in need of money, you can imagine what this means!

I think there are people confused as some use % of light that passes through versus what the % of the actual tint itself. Usually low % numbers means the tint itself (35% tint means it blocks 65% of light from passing through) and high % numbers means passable light (95% means it allows 95% light to pass through and it blocks only 5% of it). hope that clears up some.

so they really make you remove it? here (PA) you just pay the fine and hope not to get fined again. Really sucks if they require removal, if not just pay it. btw, 70% is not even noticeable to pay the $$. You may as well remove, and retint 35% all around, just roll those windows faster.

you made that way too confusing. the % of tint is just how much light passes trough. 5% tint, really dark (5% light). 70% tint, really bright (70% light)

Hi,

I think I may be one that is confused. When I got the summons it read 28%. When I originally got the tint, I got 35% in the front. Are you sure that 35% tint doesn't mean 35% of light coming through. In the back which is darker, I think I got 20%. I don't think that means 80% is coming through. And I definitely didn't ask for 80% tint. Please clarify.

Thanks!

Hi,

Couple of posts before I got mine in...

The officer said I could just pay the fine $90 for each summons (not each window like the original officer stated), or I could get a letter from a body shop (Hmmm, I wonder if they would write one for me), or a diagnosed skin condition (I actually think I can get a letter for that - any ideas what skin condition would be good).

Do you think I should just pay the tickets, have them redone, or not have them at all?

Thanks!

35% tint, 35% light through. 20% tint, 20% light through. I thought I was very clear....

Now some will say if the factory was actually 70% (I'm not eactly sure %) and you add 35%, that makes sense they measured 28%.

sounds like $90 to keep tint. OR you show up without the tint, no fine. So you like your tint and pay $90 OR you remove it and no fine. Later you can retint. But either way you risk another fine.

Letter from shop would only work if they wrote your tint was a legal % which it is not.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

So it looks like the suggestion is that I take them off to prevent further troubles. I received 1 summons for the front and 1 for the rear, so it comes to $180. So I probably will have to take it off.

Do you think that 35% all around would be better or am I just asking for more trouble?

I really like the maxima with tints, and I remember not liking it as much without.

Maybe I should move

Yeah I guess its the reverse here.. my last 3 cars bought brand new all had '5% tint' shown somewhere on the factory sticker. Tint shops might do it the other way around.

hmm.... I had gotten a ticket for my tints three times and i still have my tints on. here in my town they charge you a fine, and also this other town i bull****'ed my way out of it saying "when i had gotten the tints orignally put on i had asked for legal tints, but when i took it to a local shop they told me it was illegal and i had them remove it right then n there." and got no fine or anything. Next i got a ticket by a local car show for tints again at nassau court but i pushed the date for further so i wouldnt have to deal with it just yet, i got enough bills...

I would say go and say u got them removed, and also if u dont wanna do that I could help you out, u just gotta get the form saying u had them removed and bring it to me in long island. good luck
