The Frayed Ends of Sanity
The Frayed Ends of Sanity
(all prices in Canadian Dollars)
Y'know the Maxima is a really terrific car and I've been very happy with mine for the last three and a half years but the last few months have been a real test of my relationship with my Sherwood Green beauty.
In August my SES light came on and I had to replace my O2 sensors at a cost of about $500, then about 3 weeks later the SES comes on again and this time its the MAF sensor. Thanks to this forum I saved myself close to $500 by ordering the MAF from Jerry Rome but decided to have my dealership install it so that the ECU could be reprogrammed. Total bill including the MAF was about $350 + $85 for the initial diagnosis. Then on Sunday my battery light comes on. Fearing the worst I take out the battery and head to my local Canadian Tire store where they test it and tell me its toast (which is fine because I'd rather buy a new battery than replace the alternator). Anyway, $170 later I have a shiney new Motomaster Eliminator Spiral Cell battery in my hands which I take home and install. I start the car and the battery light is still on......not a good sign. At this point I pretty much know its the alternator. To make an already long story short, I had to drop another $600 on a remanufactured alternator and installation today.
Needless to say they'll be no Christmas presents for the kids this year and granny's operation will have to wait, such is life. I just thought I'd share my miserable tale with the forum in the hopes it makes me feel better and y'know, I think it may have worked.
I'm off to listen to some Metallica.
