This probably belongs in the wheel and tire forum, but you'll have to state what your wheel off-set is and whether you are running an 8" or 8.5" rim for people to help . . .

Welp, I have gone down appx 3 inches on my coilovers with 19 x 8.5's and 245-35-19 tires with slight rubbing on the rears over big bumps or dips at high speeds.

45 series is way too tall for your car...and i'm sure it will rub like crazy if you go lower than a mild MAXSPEED drop.....

He can go pretty low. He actually has a 7.5 inch width wheel with 42mm offset.

i have a 18x7.5 with 235/40 series tires with 42mm offset and 15mm spacer in the rear and it doesn't rub at all after I trimmed off the little tab underneath the rear fenderwall. I am running about 1/4-1/2 inch drop all around

Is it possible to go with a different size tire in the front than in the back . Like say i kept 245-45-18 in the back and went with a 245-40 in the front. Would this look stupid or mess anything up?

more sidewall could have a higher possibility on rubbing. Plus you wouldn't be able to rotate your tires cause you have different sizes between the front and the back. I don't know why you'd run the 245/45-18 in the first place

he proberly wants to run a thicker side wall like 45 maybe becuase the thincker the sidewall the less chances of him denting a rim 1st and 2nd with a larger sidewall the cars is jsut a tad bit softer over bumps.

Are these 2k4 SE rims we are talkin about here? Becuz the specs you gave me (245/45/18 42mm offset 7.5 wide) is exactly wut a 2k4 SE comes with.....

If so, why did you buy these rims? I mean they are nice looking but in the long run, these rims are real heavy, the tire size isn't correct, and I'm sure you can't go real low with these unless you get spacers or such....42mm on 7.5 wide is pretty tucked in for a 5th gen....So I'm sure you will rub if you go pretty low

Should have just bought the correct tire size for these rims....you can run either 245/40/18....or if he is worried about denting his rims, he can run 225/45/18.....both tires are within spec...

I have the 2k4 se rims, and they dont seem heavy to me. :dunno: my car is a weekend car, and there is no bling bling on this. minimal mods at most, for now. as far as upgrades are concerned, I am not trying to squeeze every bit of hp or weight savings, so if a stock wheel is heavier than an aftermarket wheel, so be it. I opt for the factory look.

EDIT: I am on JIC's A2's, with a finger gap all around. I rub in the back on hard dips going fast and speed bumps. front rubs only when turned all the way to one side going over a bump. I will wait until my tires wear out before I upgrade the tires, or whole setup. definitely staying with 18's.
