OEM Navi Install Project Begins....PICS
So i decided to switch my whole Bose Audio System with the OEM Navi and trunk mounted changer
I will keep you guys up to date with the progress.
Here is what i got last night (CD Changer not pictured)
Last night I took it all apart and took off the nasty looking fake wood trim, also had to fix the 2 button on the bose,
sometime this week, i willl take out my bose and climate control and see exactly how many wires i need to splice
first thing is to install the trunk changer and run the harness to the dash though, pics will be coming shortly

Were did you get the Navigation and do they sell an aftermarket exact replacement for the Bose system?

you didnt tell us how much did it cost you...wouldn't it be cheaper to get an aftermarket navi?

I want to do this with my 2000 SE. I've got the factory auto climate control and Bose, so I'm hoping it will be possible to put a OEM Nav in my Max. Of course, first I've got to find one with the 6 disc changer, which shouldn't be all that hard between eBay and auto-wreck yards. Please keep us posted, and do a write up with pics!! Thanks!

UPDATE:
there is good news and bad news
first the good news
I took the factory system out last night, to test the new system,
The BOse, tape, Cd Changer, steering wheel controls work like a champ, access time between cd's seems to be faster on the changer then on the factory in dash changer, which is an unexpected but cool
here's the bad news
the plugs for the climate control on the navi unit are completely different then on the factory in dash cliamte control, so i couldnt get the navi to fire up at all
very sad, but looks like i will have to match up the wires manually and splice the two harnesses together( which i expected to do anyhow)
here is a picture of the changer and changer harness, also some pics of the plugs that are going to give me a headache

Hey...congrats on getting the audio portion working sucessfully...the splicing of the wires should not be that tough. The wires actually look similar. I'm familiar with doing a splice job on Nissan wiring...it may be best for you to get a FSM and look at the differences in the wiring harnesses prior to doing the actual work. They do look quite similar but that could be very deceptive....looks good though...now get some pics of the real work...

UPDATE:
looking through the wiring diagrams and deciphering them, it looks like to get the AC to work, i will need to buy an AUTO AMP Module for the Navigation System
will post an update as soon as i locate it

UPDATe:
Deciphering the wiring diagrams, i need to go and buy a rear defroster switch( although that will come later, the biggest pain is trying to get the climate control to work, will go to the dealer tomorow to see how much the module is
other then that i fooled around with placement of the changer today, and have come to the conclusion that i will mount it below the passenger seat so i can easily access it to change discs, i also carry a lot of computer equipment in the trunk, and i thin kthe trunk wont survive there for long.
Hopefully i will figure out the climate control issue this week

no updates, i have no time to do his project and most likely wont for a while, I will probably sell it to cut my losses and move on.
My max is a daily driver and i cant afford to take the radio and climate control out for a week to work on it

pull yours out and you will realize it is less than a direct splice and swap project. the thing is nissan did not prewire all cars for the navi option... but that's why they charged you 2k+ extra for it

Keep at it, man...you'll get it.
