How do you lube your doors?

I've had some difficulty with this in all 3 of my Maximas..

Near the hinges is a little flat rod thing that slides in and out of the door that needs lubrication. In my 93 it was metal and not too difficult to get some grease in between the plates, but on the 5th gens it is a solid black plastic thing.

Do I just glop some grease all over the outside or is there a better way??

P.S. I have used plain white lithium grease in the past. Is that good enough?

I've used White Lithium Grease, but that didn't seem to do the trick. Anyone.?

..wd40 ! i always use that jsut spray over the 2 big hinges and that black one that goes into the door and call it a day.

yeah when it was squeaking like crazy, nissan used lithium grease

when it started happening again in 2 weeks, i sprayed wd40 and it hasn't squeaked in 1 month since

Maybe some KY would be a good door lube. There are other uses for it you know.

I tried WD40 and Silicone spray in the past, but it wears out too quickly, especially when there's a lotta rain.

I'm still trying to figure out the black plastic thing though.. does friction occur on the OUTside of this thing (I cant see any wear marks) or is there a hidden slider inside that I can't get at.. dunno. Like I said before, the 93's had metal plates instead, and you could get the goop in between the plates. The 5th gen is just a solid plastic block.

the black plasic thing has detents in it to allow the door to stay open at two places.. if you notice the two distinct detents when you open the door slowly. But if you lube it then you'll bearly feel it. I spayed silicone on my hinges and that plastic covered metal ( think it's metal underneath) and I can't feel anything. The door just swings open and close too easy.
