Strange Sound

I'm getting this strange sound from the front driver side of my car. It doesn't come at any specific time (i.e. pushing in clutch pedal, accelerating, braking, turning) rather it happens almost any time there is certain movement happens. It happens a lot during the bucking in first and second gear. It happens on hard acceleration and when depressing and lifting the clutch pedal. It is a strange sound too. It is like a squeak kind of rattle and I'm checked to see if anything was loose but nothing is. It seems to be toward the front left side of the cabin (toward my left knee). I thought it might be the clutch but the sound happens without using the clutch and at a standstill there is no sound even if I do use the clutch.

Any ideas?

What about the suspension?? Are you lowered? Could be a spring isolator and the squeak is from the spring. Why too much stuff that squeaks!! Good luck.

I am not lowered and what made me exclude the suspension is that I almost never hear the sound when I hit bumps at speed or even slowly (speed bumps or dips).

No ideas, but I have the same sound. I'm lowered, but I could hear this before that too. Wondering what it could be too.

Is it driving you nuts? The only thing that doesn't make me want to let someone check it out is because there is no change in performance and when I have the radio on I can't hear it or when I am just cruising at a constant speed it doesn't make a sound. But I love to roll the windows down and turn the radio off to hear the intake but this strange sound is driving me nuts!

I think everyone that owns a 5th Generation Maxima just needs to get used to rattles, clunks, and various other noises. If I had a dollar for every noise my Maxima made I would have enough to buy a better car.... Invest in good speakers and crank up the radio, thats what I do. However earplugs are way cheaper.

I think its the bracket for my intake. I looked under the hood and played with the intake and that sound was made. I tried to make sure there wasn't any friction and the sound went away (temporarily probably). Do you have an intake, carabuser? That might be your problem.

I don't have a FSTB, although I could see that as being a problem for some.

It is driving me nuts. Not the sound tho, but the fact that I don't know what it is. Yes, I do drive with music pretty loud 90% of the time. And yes, I do have an intake AND a fstb. Never thought that intake could cause that, I'll look into it too (btw I have Berk). I hope we can figure this one out and maybe there'll be one sound fewer

i have the same exact sound in my 5th gen too. it has nothing to do with the clutch. it only makes the sound when i accelerate or let off the gas when in gear. it's been driving me crazy for a while now too and been wondering what it is. maybe i'll mess around with my intake and see if that's the problem. (i have a berk too)

Well it's not my intake that's making the noise. I don't know what it is. Have u tried playing around with your intake as well carabuser? i'm getting really annoyed by this sound now and want to figure it out.

I had a sound very similar to this recently and it ended up being the PR CAI intake pipe rubbing against other metal pieces in the engine when i shifted or hit the gas...i just laid out some extra dynamat i had along the path of the intake tube where it was running and i haven't heard the noise since
