PAC SWIX Infrared eye placement ?

Hey Guys,
I tried to search for the answer here with no results.
Where is the best place for the PAC SWIX infrared eye to regain the steering wheel controls ? I placed it in many spots with no luck. I currently have it rigged above my ignition where the black plastic meets the tan plastic trim in my car. It works in the night time, but on a sunny day the infrared beem doesn't seem to bounce off the back of the steering wheel the same way or it gets drowned out by the sunlight. Where is the best location to mount that little eye with no interference ? Any pics or links would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Here is a pic.

It's hard to see, but it is centered right above the HU.

Here is the complete write up.

Hope that helped.

Damn Bucket I wouldn't think it would pic up from there. If you don't have heated seats you could always put it here like I did.

Hi Wildman. I didn't think that it would either. But experimenting with it lead me to what I have. It may have something to do with the placement of the eye on my HU, but I think the emitter is pretty powerful. I can even cover it up with my finger and it still works (kinda).

Every now and then, it doesn't work right in direct sunlight. Usually the angle changes from turning etc and it really isn't a problem.

Awesome, wish I had thought about that when I was installing mine. Dirent sunlight does have an effect on these LED transmitters. Mine works even when I have drinks in the cut holder, but it won't go throught my arm when it's resting on the center consol.

Wow, I'm totally confused, if someone doesn't mind taking a second and explaining what the purpose of this thing is? What does it do, etc?

If you replace the factory radio, the steering wheel controls won't work anymore: they connect to a connector on the back of the factory radio.

So PAC came out with a steering wheel control interface that is basically a programmable infra-red remote control. You program it to send out the same codes (for volume up/down, etc) that go out when you use the head unit's remote control. That's key - the new radio has to be IR controllable, many are these days, esp. higher cost ones.

Part of the kit is in IR LED that you have to mount somewhere in line with the IR sensor on the aftermarket head unit.

Greatest thing since sliced bread. Really missed the loss of steering wh. control when I replaced the stock radio. Then someone sent me a web link to the PAC stuff. $40-60
