I need brakes info

My fiancé's brakes are starting to go and she only has 25k miles.
She has a 2003 GLX Maxima. Is this common? I have a 2002 Passat with 40k miles and brakes are still in good shape.
I assume we are better off not getting OEM brakes from the dealer... Labor is expensive and I would rather pay more upfront for something that's going to last longer. Any ideas?

There is no 2003 Maxima GLX. Or any year GLX for that matter.

correct glx is my VW, GLE is her Maxima.
(both are top of THEIR line) There is no sports edition of Passat, unless you consider 1.8t

Try an SE Maxima. GLE is "top of the line" if you like a mushy suspension. Oh ya, there's a sports edition of the Passat and it's made by VW. Of course, it costs only 80k or so, but it has either V-10 or -12 and about 400 ponies. I've seen a couple in MD and VA recently.

Anyway, does your fiance drive in stop and go traffic? My brakes wore out about the same time driving up and down 270 in MD during rush hour. I fixed it by moving. I have a reverse-commute and now they're lasting around 40k or so, even with my lead-weighted foot.

The rotors tend to warp on these cars quite frequently. The car is still under the factory warranty. You can suggest to her to take the car in and have Nissan either turn the rotors or have them inspect them to see if they may need replaced. This would be the first route to go as you won't have to pay for any repairs when they are still covered under the warranty verses spending money on an aftermarket brake kit.

If you really want to get ride of warped rotors go with Frozenrotors. But they cost 105.00 per rotor. Pad wise the are a number of good pads for around 60.00
