02-03 Auto Tranny Reliability ?
Hey all, I am in the market for a 02-03 Max, I would prefer a 6-speed but i have come across a good deal on a 02 Automatic.
I would like feedback from all of the nissan gurus on this topic
I have spend quite some time searching old posts and I am finding conflicting info on the reliabilty of the Auto Tranny. I wonder if Nissan beefed up the tranny enough to handle the torque of the 3.5???
I dont plan on modding the car much or beating the crap out of it, but I dont want the tranny to blow out with a little bit of performance driving.

I might have heard of one ATX failing but other than that most parts in the Maxima are very well built. They are made in Japan. If you aren't into manual transmissions then go for the Auto, conversely if enjoy driving a manual you WILL regret passing up the 6 speed. Just remember, I have not yet heard one person who bought a 6 spd complain that they made the wrong choice, but I have heard a ton of people say they should have gone manual.

I have an '03 auto w/ 96k. I beat the crap out of my (shifting on the go, stuff like that) and haven't had a problem, BUT I really wish I would have gotten the manual. Believe me, if you like to drive, wait for a manual!
