Engine during acceleration

Engine during acceleration
Ok, you know that when you accelerate aggresively, you hear the engine getting louder as you accelerate. Well my problem is that the engine sound when accelerating gets cut off then continues kind of rythmically like if it was stalling, But, it's not a stall. The car does not loose any power or hesitates during this and the rpm needles moves normally. It's driving me crazy.
Let me try to explain. If the sound of your engine while accelerating could be represented by a straight line like this:
1000 RPM ----------------------------------------- 4000 RPM
Mine sounds like this:
1000 RPM --------\--\--\-\----\---\---\\\-\-\\---\\\--4000 RPM
(each diagonal line being a sort of interuption of the normal accelerating sound)
If I accelerate the car with the tranny in PARKING or in NEUTRAL, it does not happen. It only happens in DRIVE, and without any noticeable loss in power from the butt dyno.
If anyone has any input on this problem, please reply
Thanks ,
Alex

How do you know the tranny is not slipping?
If it's not coils, and, say, it were pinging/detonation causing it... you might see it as a series of interruptions in the engine's normal operation, each interruption occurring when the ECU pulls back the ignition timing, but you should also feel a mild decrease in forward acceleration when that happens. Ditto with coils (actually the coils' symptoms usually involve pinging, which is induced by the coils), and possibly ditto with tranny slipping.
If there's a major fuel system problem or whatnot, you might find clues by having an OBD-II scantool hooked up that can examine sensor readings, and check out the Long Term and/or Short Term Fuel Trim values for both banks under acceleration (if any readings show ridiculously high, like above 20-30% positive trim, chances are something's screwed up)
