Timing Off.

I was checking the timing of my 2000 maxima and it was at 10 degrees at idle. It was at 15 degrees a week ago, the only thing I can think of is that I pulled off the iat sensor while it was running and threw code p0110. I reset the cel and it still is at 10 degrees. Anyone ever experience this???

Well, mine bounces now after I got a bad O2 censor replaced. Plus mine lags a bit at 3 1/2

I use a scan tool to check it. To change timing you use a consult II. Some people have had their dealer advance it with the consult II.

I unplugged the ground for 8 hours to see if that would reset the timing and still no luck, it remains at 10. Any suggestions?

Take it into the dealer to have it corrected. Should only cost you around $45.

Not really, but I think it should be faster, with my mods. I have I/H/E with no Cat/UDP/Lighter Wheels.

Just checked it again, what it is doing is, it starts at 15 degrees then slowly retards to 10 degrees as the car warms up. Is this normal?

On a side note, I have an injen cai knock off with monsterflow filter, so with my scantool I was monitoring the engine cooling temp and air intake temperature, and as the car was warming up, the ait went to a steady 75*, until the engine cooling temp went up to about 200* and the radiator fan came on, then the ait went up to 95* within a few seconds. The fan shut off and it leveled off and slowly started to drop. Just something I thought I would share. Oh and the temp here is 55* with 82% humidity.

Finally found a fix, I did the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure. My timing went up to 16 degrees, and I can feel more power on the bottom and midrange. I will do more runs tonight;-) Oh and the idle went down from 800 to 700 rpm. What probable caused this, was when I removed the throttle body a while back, the service manual says that the procedure must be done afterwards.

I just posted a new thread about this. I was gonna try the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure but then when I doing some research on what the TPS looked like, I found another how to but its a little different. Which one do you think works?

Heres what I did....Remember to drive the car around for about 15 minutes first to warm up the car and tranny.

PRE-CONDITIONING
NFEC0642S02
Before performing “Idle Air Volume Learning”, make sure that all of
the following conditions are satisfied.
Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are
missed for even a moment.
Battery voltage: More than 12.9V (At idle)
Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 99°C (158 - 210°F)
PNP switch: ON
Electric load switch: OFF
(Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
On vehicles equipped with daytime running light systems, set
lighting switch to the 1st position to light only small lamps.
Cooling fan motor: Not operating
Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
Vehicle speed: Stopped
Transmission: Warmed-up

Without CONSULT-II
NFEC0642S0302
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Check that all items listed under the topic “PRE-CONDITIONING”
(previously mentioned) are in good order.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Start the engine and let it idle for at least 30 seconds.
5. Disconnect throttle position sensor harness connector (brown),
then reconnect it within 5 seconds.
6. Wait 20 seconds.
7. Make sure that idle speed is within specifications. If not, the
result will be incomplete. In this case, find the cause of the
problem by referring to the NOTE below.
8. Rev up the engine two or three times. Make sure that idle
speed and ignition timing are within specifications.

ITEM SPECIFICATION
Idle speed M/T: 625±50 rpm
A/T: 700±50 rpm (in “P” or “N” position)
Ignition timing M/T: 15°±2° BTDC
A/T: 15°±2° BTDC (in “P” or “N” position)
NOTE:
If idle air volume learning cannot be performed successfully,
proceed as follows:
1) Check that throttle valve is fully closed.
2) Check that downstream of throttle valve is free from air
leakage.
3) Adjust closed throttle position switch and reset memory.
(Refer to Basic Inspection, EC-113.)
4) When the above three items check out OK, engine component
parts and their installation condition are questionable.
Check and eliminate the cause of the problem.
5) If any of the following conditions occur after the engine
has started, eliminate the cause of the problem and perform
“Idle air volume learning” all over again:
Engine stalls.
Erroneous idle.
Blown fuses related to the
IACV-AAC valve system.
