Thinking about new shocks...

I have a 2k SE with 37k miles and the original shocks. Wondering if the shocks need to be replaced and what would be a good repalcement for just the average around town driving?

Thanks, T

Why is the install that expensive? Is an alignment involved?

Check that site for strut information and how-tos... you can easily do it yourself... (although I didn't in the interest of time and convenience)... I have Tokico HPs (or Blues) too and I like em a lot with my Progress springs...

$200 is too much to pay for installation, I paid a lil over $100 to get mine done.... you can do it yourself in around 2-3 hours for around $30, the price of renting a spring compressor... just get a buddy to help you, cuz that makes things much easier.

Progress Springs Give To Much Drop, Go With Eibach Springs Tokico Illuminas, You Can Get The Shocks Off E-bay $475 Brand New No Shiping Cost Tokico Hp's Are Non-adjustablr So Your Stuck With A Stiff Ride Illuminas Are 5-way Adjustable

You forgot to include as your opening line "In MY opinion..."..

I'm not picking a fight, just saying its a personal preference man... I think Progress springs drop it just nice, good enough for the wheel gap to disappear and yet not as low so that its overly taxing on the struts... I like H-Techs too, although they're not as low as Progress... as for ride quality, the HP/Progress combination is fine for ME.... I think they're almost, (but still not quite) as good as stock, with much much better handling... besides, I was not recommending Progress springs to him, esp not for city driving... he was asking about struts...

On a scale of 1-10, with stock being most comfortable at 10, I'd give my ride a good solid 7.5. But that is MY opinion... so

As proven before time and time again... we can argue this till we're dead and no one will have the same opinion on any combos... ride quality is so subjective and personal, you really have to make your own decision and if possible, try others' rides...

Anyways, all this is partially OT...

If ya want good OEM replacements for city driving... HPs will suffice (assuming you keep your stock springs, if not, HPs are good to a certain degree even with other lower springs)... if you want the luxury of adjustability and maybe a spring upgrade, Illuminas are popular among people on the org...

Gents,

Thanks for all your opinions. I'm kind of confused now, but I know whatever combo of your recomendations I use, it will be a big improvement over my current ride.

They're a decent spring. A lot of the paint is pealing off, though. I've had mine for about 15,000 miles on the stock struts (26,000 miles on the odo)

Time for a change, as the struts are getting a bit weak. I'm going with the D2 coilovers. GD on now for the 4th and 5th gens in the Group deal forum.
