what material is our hood?

does anyone know about our hoods, and whether they are aluminum or steel? I have heard they are all supposed to be aluminum, but i stuck a magnet to my friends(mine is in the shop hence the concern) and his was steel, or enough steel in it to stick. anyone have any difinitive answers? thanks

It should be steel, IIRC no aluminum parts where used in the body of the A-body until they became based on the FF-L platform.

mine is definately steel. my buddy drove it into a steel cable and it scraped up the hood pretty bad and a bunch of rust developed.

What is the ff-l platform? the 04+? and what aftermarket hoods has anyone used? if someone had weight information that'd be great, but if anyone knows of some lighter ones available let me know, thanks for the info

Yes indeed, I put a 96+ front bumper support on my 95, and was very surprised at the difference, Christ those things are heavy compared to the 95!

I believe the 4th/5th gen hood is about 62-4 lbs, and a CF hood from most after market sellers are ~ 10lbs. Though I am more familiar with 4th genparts, I'm sure tehre are aftermarket CF's around.

I could be wrong but that's what I remember .

And there are many types of steel, though most commercial steels weigh approximately the same.
