Engine hesitates upon hard accel, tranny not slipping.

When the gas pedal is floored, theres a pause before the engine revs. The car moves as soon as engine starts to rev, no signs of tranny slippage. What can be the problem? The car felt this way since it was new, dealer never admitted it was problem, so I have been stuck with this for a while now.

are the coils original? some early build 2k1 have the same coils as the high failure rate 00s did. do you ever experience any shaking that would indicate a misfire? is the ses light on?

I would say the delay is because it is an Auto tranny. An auto is not like having a manual where you mash the gas and it goes. It is ran by a computer and takes a second to engage.

Do you have a TCS system?

Do you have a TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM? If you do turn it off when the weather doesent call for it. My cousin complained about the same thing. First thing I thought of was coils or maf problems so I took it for a ride . Felt what he was talking about & than saw that his traction control was on & that it is the default setting every time you turn on the car the TCS is on. Turn it off & see if your problem is gone. It also doesent help to have the crap potenzas on especially if you have TCS if there is any slip the engine kind of boggs down.

His theory about the auto tranny should only effect 02 & 03 Maximas with the drive by wire. The 00 & 01 throttles are controlled by a plain old throttle cable. At least the 00 is & I am pretty sure the 01 too.

I usually turn the TCS off, but still experience same problem. In the mornings when i start the car it sometimes shakes for about half a minute or the car will hesitate to start at all, but will eventually start.

Interesting...My SE does this too once in a while. After a few seconds of cranking I give up. The next turn of the key she fires up perfectly.

what kind of gas are you running in it, if it is sensing a spark knock it will retard the timing.

I run premium exclusively although Ontario dropped the octane grading for premium premium to 91 from 92. When I can I go to a Sunoco station and gas up on 94. Could this be too high?

while a lower octane gas can harm your car through spark knock the only thing that i could think of that too high an octane gas could do is maybe rob a little bit of your horsepower. the only reason that race cars run such a high octane gas is because of the compression ratio and the design of the combustion chamber but since maximas arent racecars and arent designed for that........well you get the picture.
