Does non-professional service void warranty?

Does non-professional car maintenance void the warranty. For example, if I do oil and coolant changes on my own, and then I go in for warranty work without reciepts that show that I got oil changes, will that void the warranty? The manual has instructions for oil and coolant changes, so it would seem that it would not void the warranty, but I just went in for warranty work (an O2 sensor, which does not even care about oil changes, etc), and they asked me lots of questions about where I normally go for service.

I'm worried that if one day my car will need a major repair like a transmission, the dealer will refuse to do it under warranty.

Well it's not hard to tell if someone has be not changing the oil and coolant on their cars. Just make sure your using nissan oil filters or they will try to get you on that.

Yes, it can.

When I sold a car that was still under warranty they needed all the maintenance receipts or they would not transfer the warranty to the new owner. I asked a bunch of questions and the short story was:

"If you do your own oil changes save the receipts because if something goes wrong with the engine we *may* deny your claim. We don't know if you did the recommended maintenance and why should we pay because you never changed your oil?"

BTW, I found the receipts I needed
