The Dreaded P1320 trouble code

Some other Maxima must have sneezed on my 2000 at a traffic light, 'cause the check engine light came on at 80K mi, and Auto Zone read code P1320. I have two 1320 codes, but no 0300 or the other lower numbered misfire codes.

Do I have to replace all 6 coils, or can I narrow it down to just one by testing them? Can I simply replace the spark plugs at 80K mi to cure the problem?

You guys all probably discussed this at length two years ago, but I missed it.

Larry

no you dont. just check what that code is and it should tell you what cylinder misfired. then you can just cahnge that plug and coil. i had the same thing a whle back but i just changed all of them at 75k

Thanx. I think I'll go ahead and replace all plugs at 80K while I'm at it. What is the consensus on which plugs are best?

i would recommend going with NGK whether you choose coppers or plats. plats are oem but are more expensive and last longer than copper. i use coppers because they cost 1.69 a piece, burn hotter than plats and i change them once a year or every 15k miles or so.

I had p1320 for four months or more before the bad coil finally gave out. Then i got a p0302, cylinder number 2 misfire. replaced the number 2 coil and have been fine since (about 6 months)

I've had my search engines running all day on this. I think I saw a mention of a coil pack recall on 02's, but I could be wrong.

The coil packs are apparently fragile, and susceptible to engine heat and jostling around during spark plug replacement.

Which reminds me, I have never replaced the plugs in 80K miles, but it looks like everyone else has.

well, I for one have had a p0304 and a p1320, changed the one coil, and haven't had any trouble since. Although, some say replace 'em all, but i just wasn't that rich. Supposedly they will all eventually die but, so what. It is cheaper from someone on the org to buy all six, but only by like 30-50 bucks rather than from Dave B. at South Point Nissan who sells them individually.....

PIECE [sic]

you can replace the one that is failing if you want but other have had the other fail shortly after. you can test by removing a coil and when you find remove one that doesnt change the car then you found the one thats failed.
