The Maxima is really a car enthusiasts vehicle -- a quick and capable sleeper. The 6th gen offers a .... well, an American's gigantor sedan. Most of us are here because we actually care what we drive; our Maxs' are more than just 'a car.'

BTW, if I got another Maxima, I now think it'd be a late 5th gen 5spd.

 

even if Nissan made a better Maxima, I would still not buy it, because I want to try other brands. Brand loyalty is stupid IMHO

 

Yeah, two years ago I didn't see a single new car coming out that I actually liked. But Subaru, Acura, and heck, even FORD are coming out with new cars I like... a lot. I fully expect my next car to be a different brand, sorry Nissan. But that'll be years down the road, I hope.

 

ianopp - agreed heartily. This will be it for me. G35 is close to being at the top of the list. But, honestly, the new Subaru Legacy may just be the car. I know, I know, its a 4 banger. But hey, what's a guy to do - I miss the handling of my A4, don't want the repair costs post 3 years, and tired of my Max handling like the space shuttle.

 

hahah i can attest to that..i think this will be my first and last Maxima. Too many cars have just come onto the scene which are good bangs for the buck. Hopefully G35c in a few years.

 

I think its great that these days we have so many different cars to choose from that is on the same lever or even better then the max. It will be very interesting to see what kind of cars will be coming out in three to four years. I have a 2000 Se max and i want to keep it for a while, i might even upgrade to an 03 in a couple of years if i dont find something that might suit my needs, but until then i will enjoy my max.

 

aye, my sentiments exacty. Plus, this 20 year old college student isn't exactly in the position to buy another car. (But the Max is paid off in full, woohoo!)

 

This is my 3rd and last max as well. I think it also comes with age too. I bought my 91 when I was 19, my 93 when I was 22 and now I'm 24 with an 02. I guess that as you get a little older and experience something new, you set your standards higher because you know you can do better. I know that if for any reason I dont have my 02 any more, I will not be getting another Nissan, or Infiniti. Performance and practicality the 5.5 gen it the choice. But my next vehicle will most likely be a very luxurious SUV like an RX330 or (if money wasnt the issue) a Cayanne S. If I do decide on a car, it will be an 05+ Acura RL, or 05+ Lex GS. I'll even go for an E500, but a car like that is just a money hog.

Bottom line is, the Maxima was Prime in the years between 89-94 and 97-99 and 02-03. I think that Nissan did the best job of setting the Maxima apart from other car makers with those models especially the 3rd gen. The loaded 89 Maxima SE 5spd was unlike any other car in in its class! And the 02-03 blew away the competition with performance. The 4th gen didn't really have anything to attack other car makers with. The style was traditional, great performance and quality, but not the most appealing ride out there. The Maxima will become a Legened... and I'm glad to have owned 3 cars of the 2 best models!

Probably because it's not exactly a big turn-on for new Max owners to jump on maxima.org and read about how everyone is leaving the brand

 

who cares, why does anyone have to follow the suit? You do what you like. If you want your next car to be a Nissan then buy it. Mods please lock this

 

i hate nissan servise so i dont know if i would get another nissan.... probably i would go with VW

 

I agree this should be a sticky vmaximus.

Greekmaxima i would consider something other then a VW just because of all the reliability issues with those cars.

 

I'd go with Lexus, Acura and BMW when it comes to service. Even Ford has better service than Nissan.

 

BMW will leave you with more service headaches than you need after a certain amount of mileage. I would stay away from anything Euro and stick with Lexus or Acura for low maintainence.

 

I'm like most of the other folks here, my 01 Max is probably my last. I like to keep my cars for a long time so they need to be reliable and have a lot of bang for the buck. The new 6th gen maximas don't seem to be as reliable as before and aren't the value they used to be. I love my max (especially the VQ) and so does my wife, but sadly Nissan's quality has gone downhill due to all of the new models so until they settle down, we'll have to shop elsewhere.

 

Most definitely my last Maxima. Next car will be a G35 Coupe or a BMW 330i or maybe even an Acura TL. Max has been great to me, but handles like crap.

 

Definitely my last Maxima and, most likely, last Nissan as well. I can't stand the service. The service I got from Pontiac was better than this. (Yes, it depends on the dealer blah blah, but I've been to 3 Nissan dealers and service has been almost the same). Besides the performance to $ ratio, there's not much Nissan has to offer IMO. I'd much rather save up $, and buy something more expensive, but will provide me w/less headaches.
