Looking At A 2003 SE

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and would appreciate some advice...

I am looking to purchase a 2003 Maxima SE 6-speed

Here are the details:

Asking Price: $21,990

Mileage: 29,000

Color: Maroon

Location: Northeast

Cruise Control Auto-On Headlights Power Driver Mirror
Driver Illuminated Vanity Mirror Adjustable Steering Wheel 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
Remote Keyless Entry Auxiliary Pwr Outlet Gasoline Fuel
Fog Lamps Electrochromic rearview mirror Pass-Through Rear Seat
4-Wheel ABS Tires - Front Performance Passenger Illuminated Visor Mirror
Alarm V6 Cylinder Engine Intermittent Wipers
Driver Air Bag Passenger Air Bag Power Driver Seat
Child Safety Locks Power Passenger Mirror Front Wheel Drive
Rear Defrost Tires - Rear Performance Auto-Off Headlights
Power Steering Air Conditioning Moonroof
Power Door Locks Power Windows AM/FM Radio
Cassette Player Tilt Wheel Multi Compact Disc
Bose Premium Sound Dual Front Air Bags ABS (4-Wheel)
Power Seat Rear Spoiler Alloy Wheels..

I was wondering a few things:

1.) From your experiences and knowledge what would be a fair price for this vehicle?

2.) Is there anything I should look for that is specific to this model year and trim in regards to typical problems?

3.) What is the cost to the dealer to have it "certified" by Nissan?

4.) Is it very difficult to upgrade the Bose stereo to an aftermarket system?

5.) Any general advice would be happily taken.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

does it have any options besides the bose system, like HLSD or Titanium edition or anything, if it doesnt it is no way worth that, i paid only 2100 more for mine brand new, i guess it comes down to how much you are willing to spend to get the six speed

It has the Bose and a moonroof as options... Beyond that I don't believe there is anything else.

Is there truly a "premium" to be paid for a six-speed 2003 Maxima? I think production was fairly low but I am not sure.

I drove the car and it is very nice.

Any other recommendations for a good performing 4 door sedan with a manual transmission under $20,000?

Thanks!!!!

according to KBB that price is actually reasonable, however keep in mind that it will only be worth 18XXX to you as a private seller....... as for the six speed, they are rare, i think 17% of the 2k2 and 2k3 maximas had it, and for the money, i dont believe there is any comparison... the max will be the fastest and probably the nicest in the 20000 dollar sedan market.

side note, i think you should get it, i love mine, and always will.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks for the input.

I agree... I can't find anything with four doors and a stick that competes with the Maxima for that price.

I think I may be getting this car on Monday.

i bought my 2002 maxima six speed with 29000 miles on it with leather bose and a sunroof for 17000. I would consider looking somewhere else, because you can find a much better deal than 21k.

Hi maxilvr06,

Did you buy your car from a dealer? Was it 100% clean (i.e. no paintwork or repaired damage, good interior)? Was it certified? Where are you located?

Thanks!

hey needforspeed,
i bought my car at Gunn Nissan way down here in San Antonio, Tx, and it has absolutely no blemishes on it besides two paint chips on the front, which i fixed using a compound from langka, and the interior looks brand new. everyone that gets in it thinks i just bought it new. I may have just gotten a really good deal, but i think u can do better than 21k. it was certified and carfax stated that it had no previous damage or paintwork done to it.

I have the dealer down to $19,500 and he is staying pretty hard there. I really like the car but I am trying to think with my mind and not my heart. At $19,500 he says it will not be certified due to the $1,200 cost to the dealership for it. He basically is saying that if I don't like the deal I can look elsewhere but the car has sat on his lot for several weeks now.

well if you really like the car get it, they are awesome cars! mine is completely stock right now and i smoked one of those new neon SRT-4's which are supposed to be real fast and i wasnt even gettin it over 3000 RPMs. They also get real good fuel economy. I usually get around 29 or 30. On long highway trips w/ an average speed of 75 i get about 36 mpg which is awesome. but yeah, whatever you wanna do, do it. 19500 isnt bad for a car like this. trust me.

You beat an SRT-4? They are pretty quick (0-60 in like 5.8?). Congrats.

Getting close to 30mpg sounds like a dream... The other car in my household is a new Durango and it gets about 12-15mpg.

I can't find anything better than the Maxima for around $20,000 so I think this may be it.

Thanks!
