How do you know if you need a new solenoid and/or tcm? My 2k Se was made in March of 2000.

Read the TSB and see if any of the symptoms apply to your car.

how drastic is the slippage? I have noticed a little pause, but nothing I haven't experienced on other cars...

With mine... before it was fixed... if I floored it up a hill I would get a 1-2second pause then it would slam into gear and I would get some nasty torque steer. If you aren't hard on the throttle you may not notice the problem.

Hey. I am new here so my questions are going to be dumb. What is "TSB and solenoid and/or tcm " ?
I at times feel what you described above as well. If i flore it, there is a gap before I feel and hear the power, the rpm will jump but after that short gap...
I have the car for 1.5 years with 23K on it now. Not sure if this happened when it was "newer"...
Is there reason for concern, or are you guys talking about something else.

Thanx

Chuvak: welcome.....there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum that lists out all the TSBs. Download the one for the tranny and check it out.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
TCM = Transmission control module (an ECU for the tranny)
Solenoid = the thing that controls line pressure in the transmission.

If you have the symptoms detailed in the TSB, take your car to the dealer and have it checked out. Good luck!

Thanx for the info!
A lot of useful stuff there.

So if I suspect any one of the issues mentioned in those TSBs to be a problem with my Max, the dealer should take care of it at no charge, right??

Thanx again!

I think I'm getting jipped with the latest transmission TSB. I've been to two different dealerships and they tell me they can't duplicate the problem. However, I feel as if it is not blatantly obvious because I had my ECU replaced at the end of last year. The ECU replacement helped, but, since then, more involved issues have arisen with the automatic transmission.

I feel strongly that if I had NOT had the ECU replaced previously, they would have noticed slippage and would have, in my last visit: (1) Replaced the solenoids (2) Replaced the ECU. Instead, I got only the ECU replaced some time ago.

They won't do a thing at this point unless it throws a code while driving or throws a code they can look up afterwards.

I wish I had the old ECU, then I would throw it in there and get: (1) Replaced solenoids (2) Replaced ECU.

I think I am screwed until something breaks or damage is done.
