Gas tank door

I tried to search as many pages as I could and didn't find this topic.

About a year and a half ago brought my car into the dealer b/c the gas tank door was not popping open and it appeared to be crooked all of a sudden. Seemed to be higher and was having difficulty popping out. So I paid about $80 for a new door and got it painted to my color. It is happening again. Any thoughts on this? Obviously it wasn't someone hitting that one part of my car which is what the dealer said probably happened?!?!? Like some info before heading to the dealer - no rush on it just yet. Problem just came back. But I do put gas in the car about 3X a week so I can't be stuck without it opening.

Thanks -

i had the same issue. try spraying the hinge with a lubricant and bending the spring back so that it can pop out with force.

worked for me in may and still cruisin..

my two cents

So I looked at it closely when I got gas. The door is a little stiff opening and closing. The button to release it looks fine. The problem is it opens crooked. Too high. When it is closed the lower left corner sticks out - not flush against the body. So either the hole is in the wrong spot; and that part of the body is curved. Or the screws where the door attaches is too high - making the whole piece too close to the top so that it scrapes and is becoming warped/dented when it is repeatedly opened. This is a bigger problem than adding lubricant I think. But thanks for the comments. Wish the dealer noticed this when we replaced it last time. I think I made a comment to them that the door corner stuck out which should have suggested a problem to them.

Thanks.
