i downshift to 2nd and floor it as the 330ci comes up behind me then almost pull even with me in 3rd gear before we break for traffic, turns out to be 2 friends of my older brother, the car was an automatic convertible and had chrome rims and still pulled on me of course my new tranny only has a 1000 miles on it but damn i think a 5 speed would've killed me. antbody else race one?

I have....

But it is hard to determine if they are trying hard enough or not. Sometimes I thinks its just "grape" power to prove who is the "winner". I ran with one when he decided that he did not like my Maxima passing his BMW. We ran through the gears on the highway and eventually after certain speeds he started to drop further back. He was never able to pass me. Was he loafing? Was he being smarter by slowing down? Or was I actually pulling away? Who knows. It did make me feel good that I "kept up" with the 330 and did not get spanked.

oh he was trying alright ,my car feels a little sluggish down low since i got the new tranny but high end seems like it pulls harder so i'm going to see if i can set up a race with him to see for sure if the max can keep up.

Finally my frustration set in, and I went "Andretti" cutting weaving, every rule in the book broken, funny thing is I have a habit of signalling before I do it. Looks funny. One time in MD, I was being tail gated by a Mazda 929S, I always signalled my motions before, and he'd follow. Finally I decied to get a lil sneaky and I signalled to make a left turn while going 80mph and then I went right, and he was stumped for a sec while he hit the brakes, before nailing the car in the middle lane and on his left.

-Bahaha,
LOL
I have always thought that "racing/driving" was more of a thinking mans game. Kinda like a puzzle. If you look far enough ahead and plot your moves accordingly then you will win the "game". I have many kills, not because I have a superior car or have superior driving skills, but because I think a bit before I "make my move" Your story makes me laugh because I have seen it many times. People think to much with their right foot....

ok ok ... bmw 330.. 5 speed aiite, runs 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, and quarters are not slow at all. if it was auto, they run low 7s or high 6s.. i doubt this car tried, becuz my brothers 328i with only CAI 5 speed auto is hard to pass, or he beats me.... so... i dunt think that 330 was trying.

Stats from Mototrend

I know some people don't like magazine stats, but in this months MotoTrend they state the BMW 330i's 0-60= 6.11 s, and the 1/4 mile= 14.65 s. Pretty quick.

My dad has a 330i auto and it is slighly quicker than my Max. They have 225 hp vs my 222, so it is a great match. A 5 speed 330i would beat me pretty bad, in my opinion.

where are you getting these numbers? look in the back of motor trend (i am only posting on this thread because i am selling my max and getting a 330i or Ci)...a 330xi runs 5.8 0-60 and a 14.4 in the 1/4 mile...the xi weighs slightly more than an i or a Ci beacuse it is the all wheel drive version of the car...remember now, for our cars, the best numbers these magazines were able to get were 0-60 in 6.7 and 1/4 mile in 15.1...people on the board can run low 6 second 0-60 runs and high 14 second 1/4 mile runs...i'm sure this bimmer can do better than 0-60 in 5.8 with a driver that has learned the car a little better and with a driver that gets a good launch

what i'm saying is that unless you have a supercharger, you have no chance against a 330...if you raced one and beat it, they weren't racing you or they missed a shift or they suck at driving stick

the 330 is as fast as an s2000 (0-60 times etc.)...can we beat s2000's? no...

and don't just look at the bimmer and say it has 225 hp, our max has 222 hp...not a big difference...and the weight is very similar...well there are tons of differences between the cars...first off, bmw can build a car much better than nissan...the bmw transmission will outlast any maxima tranny and the bmw uses a straight 6 engine rather than a v6 (someone explained this to me one time and said that a straight 6 can output power better)

i always have backed up maximas and i have won races that i shouldn't have won, but i'm saying that 2 drivers w/ equal skill levels...one in the 330 and one in the max, the 330 would kill...except on very very high end (they are speed limited to 128 (i think 128...right around there) so once the max hits that, they will outrun the bimmer...but when you race someone, how often do you get upto your top speed? o, and you can chip a bimmer and take off the governor and the top speed is supposed to be around 15x (not sure exactly what)

Somebody was saying that MT wrote the wrong number on the test for the 330Xi. It weighs more than the 330i, which was recently tested at 14.6. If you buy the 330i, GET THE SPORT PACKAGE!!! It is well worth it. Our 330i handles as well as my friends C5 Vette and is one of the best braking cars i have ever driven. Zach you wont be disappointed with the 330, I love my Maxima but will ****** the keys for the BMW anytime when its available. I am waiting till the price of the E46 M3 comes down so I can purschase a certified one.

i'd love the e46 m3...the bmw dealership next door to the dealership i work at has 4 m5's in the showroom, a z8, 2 m3 coupes, and 1 m3 convertable (just got the conv. in today)...they all look amazing...i've heard lots of negative things about the new m3...it is not supposed to be nearly as fun to drive as the last gen m3 but it is all based on opinion

do you think i should get the 4 door or 2 door? i'm leaning towards the 2 door and i will defenitely get the sport package and the hid's...it will defenitely be a stick shift and i'm deciding on the cold weather package...right now i want a black one w/ red leather, the dark grey color w/ red leather, silver w/ red leather, white w/ red leather, dark blue w/ grey leather, dark red w/ grey leather...those are the colors i like...i'm not a huge fan of tan leather (except in this one porsche i drove...purple/blue colored porsche w/ tan leather conv....it looked amazing...but other than that, i like grey leather and red (i like black, but after ohio i am moving back to the west coast and black leather is too hot...i will also be here for awhile before moving to ohio and over break i might drive back here

it might be hard to find w/ the options i want...the one i test drove was a 330i w/ the sport package PERIOD...didn't have auto seats, didn't have the upgraded stereo...it was a 330i 5spd silver w/ red leather...i want HID's so bad...i kinda like the manual seats more than power seats, though...i don't want to order one because i will have to wait until i sell my car and that means i will be out of a car for a couple of months while they are building it (i might have to do that though)...i'll have the local dealerships check around first to see if anyone around has one...all the other 330's at the dealership next door were auto's

the 2 doors look more slick.. go with that unless u want more room... my bro has the 328i sport package 5 speed semi-auto, moonroof, and power seats... nothing else.. great car, tranny way better then maximas.

Get the 330i Coupe. The 5 speed is a good choice, i wish my dad would have gotten it over the steptronic, but he is only keeping the car for a few more months till the 745iL comes out. In my opinoin the Xenon headlamps are a big waste of money. They look pimped, but compare them to standard BMW halogens, I dont see very much difference in light output. BMW has some of the best lighting on its cars, so i feel that Xenon are more for appearance. Instead of paying 500 dollars on lighting upgrades, take your car to Dinan and get some engine upgrades. Go with black or silver, they are two of the sharpest looking colors on the car and match nicely with the 17" rims from the sport package.

Get your shifting down in the 330i and you will be able to beat a lot of cars on the road. If you cant beat them in the straights, wait till they hit the turns and you will blow by them!

I don't get why you guys don't belive that race. He's admiting that it pulled even with him. It sounds pretty legit. It looks like a 5sp max vs. auto 330i. He said it was a conv(may be heavier) and that there was a second passanger. If a 330i 5sp runs low 6's...which it does...why is it hard to belive that an auto convertible of the same car would be somewhat slower....to the tune of high 6's...right with a 5sp max???????????????

you guys be confusing me

I'd be surprised if a BMW 330Ci couldn't crush a Maxima on the turns...even more so than the straight.
