The rims are 7.5 in wide if that makes a difference.

Yes. I have 17x7.5's with a 42 offset on an 03. No problems.

yes they will work fine,in my openion 42 will set the wheel to far inside. i went with 38mm offset 19x8 wish i would of got 35mm 19x8.5 for a more aggressive look.

if 42 mm would set it to the inside could you put spacers to push it out a little.

i have 18" 7.5" wide rims on 42 offset.

Let me tell ya, the rear looks brutal as the wheels are so tucked in its rediculous..

yeah, but stock our cars come with the rears tucked a lot anyway. I have the 18x7.5 with 42 offset and I think it is a little less tucked than our cars came stock. Just my .02. I am also lowered on JIC's so I wouldnt want them pertruding any further as I plan on tucking the rear wheels as soon as I get new tires.

42 is basically the stock offset, so yes, it will work. As for preference when it comes to looks/stance...that's exactly what it is...personal preference.
