Why would you ever want to go higher than 136mhp, unless you're running from the cops......

I'm guessing your car is a automatic, or has 16" wheels and 5spd. I got around the speed limiter which cut me off at 135 on the speedo- 130 on the scan tool. I've seen the speedo say 155 few times. Everyone here should lay back off people who wanna try out their cars. A) its not your driving record B) not your car C) hes going to get locked up if he gets caught or injures someone. I reather be stuck in a pack of speeding cars doing 80-100MPH on my commute home from work, than stuck in a pack of fockers on cell phones in the hammer lane ( left lane) doing 65-70. I come from europe, we know how to drive, we drive at speed of 120+MPH for hours, and I drive like that every day for years. I got a radar jammer, scanner, and a radar detector in the car, I'm pretty much invisible to radar- I only use the scanner on longer distance trips where I'm not sure of terain. So lay off the speeders. You aint gonna tell me you never drove 80+MPH here, if you didn't... then sell your Maxima and get a 4 cylinder Camry or something.

Dude, I see you all over the org and have much respect for you. Everyone has their own opinions as i'm pretty sure you've seen. If you're from Europe, I don't doubt your skills at high speeds. i won't lie and say I haven't done over 80mph and I have def. raced more than a few Hondas in my life. Some people have been in situation where people get hurt or even died with stupid people racing. I'm not doubting anyone's skill or point fingers, i just want to be the person who spoke up and have everyone think i'm an a$$hole than not saying anything. People will drive fast regardless of what I say, but atlease they'll remember the a$$hole who tried to tell them to chill a little. It's my .02 and apologise if anyone was offended.

yes there is a governer/limiter because of your factory tire speed rating. you'll need an ecu reflash/and upgrade/piggyback to eliminate this. The 17" wheels and 5spd cars don't have limiters. Mine has no limiter, it really does put a damper on your car's abilities. That's where wrx's stop with factory equip, that's where most cars in our class run out, TL, 328i, etc. The extra 10mph is really useful sometimes.

Two words.... Mo ....... ron.

There's a big difference between 80 and 135+. I hope both of you end up in jail, but then again blackbird's excuse on the stand is going to be "I'm from europe so I can drive better than you."

I've lived in Europe too, spent alot of time on the Italian Autostrade and Tangenziale (as well as the Autobahn and other highways in Germany/Austria), which are basically super-speedways. The difference in Europe is....in Europe you don't have people going 55 in the left lane. The left lane traffic is moving around 120. The middle around 90. The right around 60....there is a basic driving "courtesy" and "system" in Europe that is not present in the US. You go 120 on a US highway and there's a good chance someone is gonna get fukked up good (either you or someone else). Also, our highways are not made for that kind of speeds in most cases.

I routinely and comfortably drove over the 110-120 mark in my Lancia in italy...but even on Sunday morning here in the US (hardly any traffic) I cranked it up to 110 in the max on I-95 and did not feel particularly safe...because of other drivers not paying attention or going slow in the wrong lanes or changing lanes suddenly, or gabbing on phones, or eating breakfast.

At 135+ all it takes is the smallest mistake, some road debris, a gramma in her Fifth Avenue who drifts into your lane, or a deer running across the road....all it takes is any of these things and you'll be more or less DEAD, and at that speed you'll take some other cars with you most likely.

If you wanna crank it up at the track, that's cool. But 135+ on public roads? Please..... I saw a guy last week in his Z28 weaving through traffic at about 110-120ish (I was going about 85 in a 65 at the time...most of the traffic was moving about 80ish....). I called the cops on his stupid ***. I laughed heartily as a few minutes later I saw the state trooper come hauling down a highway entrance, disappear over the next hill, and a few miles later, the Z28 was pulled over when I finally caught up. Sure, I'll be the tattle-tale...better than someone getting killed because of reckless/stupid drivers....

As to BlackbridVQ....well, I can't speak for your driving skills, but there are plenty of people out there (and plenty on this board) that probably are not very experienced drivers and do not have the slightest clue how to handle the car in case of some kind of "unexpected event" while going that fast...so I discourage people from doing it. Also, doing 135 in a stock maxima is alot more dangerous than in , say, YOUR maxima with suspension/handling upgrades.

over.

Well do not forget that the roads of the US and the roads of Europe are totally different.
Comparing the Autobahn and I95 is a joke. People do 120 on the Autobahn only because:

1) The road is very wide!
2) There are no crazy turns like on US highways.
3) They do not have rush hour!!!!

AND LAST OF ALL. THIS FRICKEN THREAD IS A SIMPLE QUESTION ABOUT MAX SPEED. Why is it important to discuss how fast we can and should drive. Everyone knows the law. Thats why you pass a written permit.

Anyways, my fricken maxima wont go faster than 110 mph. It is a GXE produced in 04/99 which were first 5th gen maximas.

Autobahn coming from Munich going towards Berlin is not much wider than the IL's Autobahn- what we call I355, its a new tollway that is almost never monitored by the cops. Like I said, for some people doing 60MPH is fast, for some people 120MPH is just cruising along. Everyones preception to speed is diff, having done 170MPH in a little Sentra few years ago at 3AM on a deserted road I think I wanna start doing Bonneville Salt Lake records from now on I know when I was younger and smoked up on some ill **** and drove on the highway- 65MPH to me was like crazy fast, like I said everyones brain reacts diff to high speed driving. I have big brakes, big fat tires, good suspension, and power under my right foot on my car, I wouldn't attempt 120+MPH in a stock Maxima for sure. My GXE felt like it was going to fly away at that speed on stock 205-65-15 cheapie Potenzas on steel wheels.

Apexi Rev Speed Meter sold on Ebay, wire it up and it works. I had a speed sensor code on my 01 come up like 2 times in 6 months on the car.

Give the guy a break!! He just asked a questions, Not an opinion on how he should drive. Everyday you live you take risk. I think it's funny that most of the people who try to shoot down top speed questions, probably smoke and not only endanger peoples lives with 2nd hand smoke, but htey also put there own in danger and never think twice about. Most people only break those speeds once in a blue moon. Your average smoker may smoke half a pack a day. To put in short, I applaud you all for looking out for him in your own way, but you also need to realize NO ONES PERFECT!!!! And yes this means you too!!

Buy the way, I know on the 4th gen there was a pink wire on the rightside of the ECU you could cut to bypass the limiter, but it would set an CEL

STFU 2k2Kev, sell your Max and get a 4 cylinder Camry if your don't like speeding. This is a free country and I can drive as fast as I like to. If he asked bout road racing- where few of us can get up to 130MPH quickly on a stretch of the track, would you be *****n like a little girl still ? Mind your own bussiness, this is why america is so phucked up, we tend to stick our nose into someone elses bussiness. You aint got nothing good to say bout the speed limiter removal here , STFU and don't read the thread ! Go find a thread bout blue light bulbs and indiglo gauges where you can comment on.

"This is a free country and I can drive as fast as I like to. "

This is not a free country? What gave you that idea?

Further, you cannot drive as fast as you like. That's speed limit. Though you can do what you want , and judging consequences is your freedom, hell losing your license, or your life, well that's just your choice isn't it?

Regardless of how stupid going 135 might seem to some of you, to some people there are roads where it is perfectly safe to everyone EXCEPT themselves possibly. I, for instance, live in a town off I-10, one of the biggest interstates in the country, and had my bone stock maxima at 140 for probably 3 miles before I even came up on one car. If the guy was doing 100+ in busy traffic I could understand all the preaching, but it's his car and he asked a simple question.

Drill a hole in the floor so you can press the pedal lower. This will trick the ECU into thinking you are trying to avoid an accident and bypass the speed limiter, as well as give you an increased rev limit.

It really does work..

Ok kids... go out and play now..... be good to each other and don't start the "race" crap. Have fun driving the Max and don't make mistakes while driving it can cost you and cost innocent people. I have done it and I paid for it. Trust me is no fun having an accident for been stupid and ignorant. My story, Racing on a Puerto Rico Highway...doing over 135 in a 280Z with all bolts on... trust me it was fast and still fast(got fixed and I gave it to my brother).... I crashed into another car which the Fire Dept cut the it in pieces to get the people out of the car, Thank GOD nobody died.....I was 19 when that happened and trust I learned from that one.. I'm not saying that I have not race in the Max but I tend not to do it....it (the accident) always comes back and I back off... So be careful guys.. there are more important things to do than racing. Think about what will happened if you crash into a School bus or into a minivan full of children... Think about it.. Take care guys,.....
