Car Start Hesitation...Help!!!

Everytime I start the car in the morning for the first time, it seems to hesiate a bit. I will start and rev to 1500 rpm then drop to 500 and hesitate a bit before returning to normal idle. It sound like it wants to stall but doesnt(this is only when the engine is cold, or started for the first time in a long period). Well this morning when I when to start the max, it was about 38 degrees. I tried to start it, but the engine seemed dead. After two tries it hesiated a bit and died again. About the forth try, it finally started. It has never been this bad before. Also when the engine is warm and in park, I will rev it to about 4000 and take my foot off the gas. When the rpms come down they will drop to 500 and jump around(like it hesitates) then bounce back to 700-750(normal idle). Do you think I have bad spark plug or does it sound like my ignition coils are going. I am going to Nissan next week. If they are the ignition coils, are they covered on the warrenty? By the way, my max is an 01 SE automatic with 46,000 miles.

Thanks for all your help.

Is the SES light on? Mine was when I had similar symptoms...and a new MAF cleared it all up. If you have no codes to check, then I dunno. I've heard people talk about cleaning out the throttle body too...

It could be the weather cuz my car does this when it's kinda muggy out..Don't ask me that's what people have been telling me..The car runs fine besides that..Maybe your car is tired.. :P

misne has done the same once or twice i just rev it to like 3500 a couple times and bring it down slowly with my foot. had an 88 tbird that did that and found that it had a bad IAC Idle Air Control module i am not sure how the max is setup but i would look at anything that controls the idle in your car.

same here

My 01 started with this too. It only happens when I start it the first time each day and stops before I am out of the driveway. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem and I replaced the plugs, PCV, air filter and noticed no change. Cleaning the throttle body seemed to have fixed the problem, but I still get it but less frequently (say 75% less than originally)... Another thing to consider would be the fuel filter... Since it is in the tank it does not get replaced as often...
