all depends on what is in the tank premium= 260(miles per tank city)
regular gas = (235 miles per tank in city)
solid city .... 100% i get 260 i sit in rush hour traffic for 45 min every morning on my way to school. i drive rather hard when i get the chance on the back roads away from the traffic so 260 isnt so bad.

durring the summer time i get around 285 still city driving but no sitting in traffic and still driving hard

the 5spd gearing is not as beneficial on the highway as autos (80mph @ 3300 rpm vs. 80 mph @ 2700 rpm)
you wish 80 mph is pretty damn close to 3200 rpm (auto)

I don't need to wish, its factual. I've had an auto maxima before for 3 years prior to this 5spd. I recall 85-90 mph would put you close to 3000-3200 rpm in a auto. Other members will be able to confirm this

5spd gearing is nowhere near the auto.
0.694 4th gear (auto) vs. 0.759 5th gear (5spd)

18.5 gallon tank! o man, what a gype i fill up on like 13 or 14 gallons all the time, at liek 14 or 15 the gas light forever comes on

i got 285 to my last tank and that was from like 14.7 gallons 50% city, 50% highway

is that descnt for a 5spd? i guess the gearing is to blame when i see auto max's geting better highway miledge then i do

28 miles a gallon to Richmond Va

I recently took a trip to Richmond Va and averaged 28 miles per gal in a 2000 GXE. I used slightly over 21 gal of full. Left NJ with 3/4 tank, arrived in Richmond with under a 1/4 tank left. Left Richmond with 3/4 tank arrived @ home with under 1/4 tank left. Most of the drive was between 65 to 70mph a few times 80mph when passing someone. So in guessing I can get 390 to 400 and change per tank on the highway....

No joke, I actually got over 450 miles per tank last week. I drove from PA down to NC and averaged 31 mpg. I do have a 6 speed (100k miles) and a recent speeding ticket has me going pretty easy on the pedal.

2000 5 sp city driving i get around 360-380/tank depends on my driving habits...

i have determined this by filling up my tank to the very top and resetting my trip odo, then recording the # when it gets to 1/2 tank, then taking that # and doubling it...

now obviously this method isnt real world but it gives me an idea...

so around 190 miles per 1/2 tank give or take is what i am getting ...

some weeks i notice getting 190 while other weeks i notice getting 180 per 1/2 tank

i would start by running your comp for dtc's, then do a full tune-up and maintain tre pressure to specs or above specs by 5 psi....also look into keeping your trans. fluid clean ( change it very often ) and do routine oil changes...every little bit helps

I have a 2002 GLE 3.5 auto.

I have only had the car a little over a month, and have kept my gas mileage each fillup so far...
Initial day (230 miles driving) almost all highway / interstate driving at the posted speed limit (between 55-70): 28.5 mpg
The last 3 tanks with everyday driving (majority city): 20.6, 21.1, 21.2

I have noticed also that the mpg shown in the information center on the tachometer is about 15% optimistic. It indicated over 32mpg on the first tank, and around 23-24 on each of the other tanks.

I filled up my 01 Max, when the fuel light came on. Used Premium gas. Have a little over a 1/4 tank left and am at 173 miles on the trip meter thing. What the heck is that called again, LOL! Anyhow, that was with about 50/50 driving really. Mind you I have had the car for a week, never owned a Nissan in my life and am used to a minivan. Struts are bad, possible o2 Sensor, etc. So, I am pretty ok with my mileage for now :-)

173 miles on 3/4 of a tank?

something is not right...ideally you should be at 173 miles at 1/2 tank

Would a bad O2 sensor cause the loss of mileage? I used Shell Premium in it. I've only had her a little over a week now and have put a lot of gas in. Dollar wise that is, cuz I'm using the premium. The other day, the CES light came on. Took her to autozone for check, and the guy told me it said some stuff, but I can't remember what. In the end, he said yeah, that means your O2 sensor. He told me not to worry about it and reset the light so it isnt on now. Now I've heard that I better worry about it, or I'll be worrying about my catalytic converter next, if it's not already going. I asked him about it that day but he said, the thing will go if it wants to, with or without the O2 sensor. Now, I looked them up and I'm thinking, oh boohoo, I could have paid for one of those O2 sensors! Since the light is no longer on, will it still throw the code to tell us which one it needs?

rarely shifting above 2000 rpm and cruising no more than 75 on the highway i can get 450 - 500 mi per tank. With regular half spirited driving I usually get at worst 380-420.

yes it very well could, if your oxygen sensors aren't working correctly then the computer has no way of telling how much air/fuel is going through the engine. it has no way to determine how much fuel to inject

i would start by getting the specific codes(s) read and go from there.the diagnostic codes usually start with the letter P, and a series of numbers after it to determine what is causing the problem..

the rear sensor really only tells you if the cat is ok , the front sensors are the ones that tell the computer how much fuel is getting in, so the computer takes that information along with the information from the other sensors and adjusts the fuel map accordingly.

This weekend, I averaged almost 27.7x mi/gal, almost 500 to the tank, mainly driving highway to AC from NYC and back.

Normally, I get about 380-400mi driving in NYC streets/highways, but highway driving is not really highway driving here. Usually keep RPMS also around 2000 or lower.

Trip computer reports average of 29.2-29.3 relgiosly. The most I have gotten was 33.2-34 but that was when I first got the car around 48k. At 92 or 95k now.

Wow, some you guys getting some big miles out of your tank.

I'm getting about 350 miles with 93 octane running on 80% highway, and I fill up when its really empty, between 16-17 gallons. Trip computer is showing 26mpg and 400 dte on average (its always too optimistic) and I reset it every gas fill.

Its an 02 max everything stock, 130K miles. Bought it 10 months ago for 5K. What's wrong with it?

I've just been driving the car as is, no repairs yet coz it appears to run fine. Now that i've finally paid off the car payments, I wanna get some work done on this car -- thinking of 1) replace spark plugs, 2) change to synthetic oil, 3) new shocks. And maybe, ...an Injen CAI?

I am getting about 24mpg and i do 60/40 city/hwy.

In my goal to improve i I have cleaned the maf which seemed to help at least in the responsiveness, i haven't driven enough to see if it improved my mpg.

I have replaced my plugs and done a full tune up but I feel that my precats are no longer flowing efficiently. The car feels kinda sluggish and some what muted (if thats even a discripition). I plan on getting a set of headers and seeing what happens.

My car is usually at about 210-230 at halfway. I usually fill up with 370-410 miles on the tank and it comes up to somewhere between 14-15 gallons and that's probably about 60%-70% highway. I've had the car for about 5 months now, but haven't really gone anywhere far with it so that it would be taking all highway, but i have seen the mpg calculator on the car (which I know is off by a decent amount), go as high as 41 mpg when I'm driving only highway for about 30 miles straight.

Aha, more great information. I think I love this place, can I just hire one of you to come fix the car, LOL! If any of you are in Alabama, near me, I'm broke, but I'd seriously consider having you come take a look at things and help my husband get her restored to where she should be. He's a truck driver, only here once a month, so it's very difficult, especially since we have so many things on that are pressing. We can only afford, and he can only DO, so many things in his four days off. I'm still hoping, with all that needs done, that I still got an ok deal on the car. Just wish everything wasn't as pressing as it seems to be. Meanwhile, I want a full tune up and oil change, but the spark plugs have my husband seeing red already and he hasn't even touched it. I dont think he wants to take on that project, I hear it's gonna be quite difficult? But, I dont want to spend 50-60 a week on gas either. I do a lot of in town driving, on some pretty rotten roads, taking kids to school, picking one up from band, then there's choir, karate, and church. That's pretty much all I do, but we'd like to be able to finally leave town and go see family. So, I have to get this gal runnin' the way she should. Thanks for all your help! Hit me up, if you are nearby somewhere and feel like coming to take a look at the car. IF you really know how to fix stuff that is of course Pamela

Seems easier to just get the actual miles / gallon.

At first read, it looks as if you filled up with more than 18.5 gallons, which would be strange. But it now looks as if you just went in and filled up a couple of times and kept track of the amounts you filled up or added fuel with.

I usually get 28+ (390+/tank) in my 4AT 03 typically when doing mostly highway. And thanks for the bump.

well the spark plugs are super easy on the 3.0..it's the 3.5 that is somewhat difficult ( for a DIYer anyway ) ...

just remove the coil packs by taking off the 10 mm bolt that holds them down, and use a spark plug socket to remove the plugs..then just put the new spark plugs in and hand tighten until it stops ..just make sure the spark plugs are gapped properly...iirc the gap is .035...use the search button for more information

Ok, thanks! I'll tell him. I'm actually going to meet with a mechanic tomorrow. A friend of mine is good friends with the woman that deals with the payments. She gets payment options. I really pray we can work something out, cuz my car seems to need more and more help. If anything, it would be good if they'd just look at a few things and give me some ideas. But, I would love to have the work done quickly, and correctly. I told my friend, I'm willing to let them hold the dang title if they want to till I get the work paid off. Desperate aren't I? LOL! Seriously, I bought a nused car two weeks ago. I want it to be perfect. Then, I want to paint it. I'm thinking black Saw some of the photos in the gallery of black ones and now, yeah, I think that's hot. Even better, how about a pearlized black

Usually get about 280-300 miles a tank, and fill up with 14-15 gal. There is a fair mix of hwy and city. I've seen as much as 400 miles out of a tank, and I've hit almost 32mpg before...though that was highway and going down hill out of the mountains.
