Stay in the family?

Hey guys,
I'm driving a pretty high-mileage (242,000 miles, 400,000km) '95 se 5-spd right now, and starting to look around for some new wheels. Wife is talking minivan , but I aint listening, but that's another story. I''m leaning towards a 2k3 6-spd here in Toronto for around $25K CAN with about 33k miles (55K kms). The 2k2's are cheaper, but I think all Canadian 2k3's 6-spds were titanium edition, plus they have the nicer rims. My major concern is that there seems to be quite a few 6-spd issues reported here (even in the 2k4 forum). This would be negate me buying another Max for sure. Any of you guys can shed some light? Also...any other build issue on these cars? I hope this thread isn't a repost...if so point me in the right direction, and I'll promptly turf this thread. Thanks for your input.

Well, the reported issues are:
1. Tranny notciness in 2/3rd gear. There is similar issue with z350. If you get it and it still under warranty (powertrain is enough), start *****ing and the tranny will get replaced. Some had good luck with redline tranny fluid as well.
2. Clutch. There was a recall that replaced the whole pressure plate. some dealers just swapped the whole thing. Mine got replaced under warranty at 30k. I have 75k on 2002 now.
3. TPS sensor recall
4. Font multi link recall
5. BOSE 6cd has issues - left side speakers go out. Mine went out at 70k and it got goodwilled by nissan with no problem. Others had issues replacing it even under warranty. Depends on the dealer.
6. Stock tires are CRAP
7. There is a TSB on timing chain tensioner noise ... but it does not hurt anthing, and many people dont trust their dealer to tear down the whole engine.
8. Fuel filter or strainer is in the fuel tank and pain in the *** to replace.
9. Sparkplugs - you have to take the intake manifold off to reach rear 3.

Overall, this is a solid car, and compared to any other make/model, these are minor issue. I say go for it. Above are just some things that you MIGHT encouner, but everythign is well documented in this forum easily fixed.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure a testdrive would expose the tranny issue, and the car I'm looking at still has some warranty left.
I''m amazed that the 2k3 has a tensioner issue when my '95 did too and the Bose issue and come to think of it...tranny issue too ( incorrect pre-load on ' 95 bearings).

Nissan needs to send those engineers on a how-to-get-it-right course.

Oh well...I guess Honda/Acura has been having tranny issue of their too, guess everyone's trying to cut corners
