Y-pipe and check engine light questions..
Y-pipe and check engine light questions..
I had a Y-pipe on my 95 Max and never had a check engine light.
That 95 was an OBD-1 car.
I now have an 01 Max and want to put on a Y-pipe, however it is OBD-II and therefore much more sensitive to the SES light.
Will the lack of catalysts in the Y-pipe cause the SES light to come on from time to time on a 5th gen?
Any 5th gen owners with Y-pipes able to share any experience?

Ur looking at an 02 sensor reading a high voltage that the voltage is out of the range of the 02 sensor, you might be able to fix it buy replacing ur 02 sensor or buying an o2 simulator. resetting your batter will not help it will come back on
02+ maximas don't have this problem. Some of the 01 cali spec maximas experience the symptoms described in post#9 by nismo-max. Three possible ways to get rid of it IF the code is P0140 or similar (rear secondary o2 sensors reading high voltage)
1. replace o2 sensor (however it will come back eventually as the y-pipe will cause a excessive high voltage reading again)
2. o2 simulator
3. your ECU may fall in a nissan TSB which fixes a glitch where the ECU keeps reading the o2 within too narrow parameters.
