New Engine!! Nissan Is The Best!

Yesterday I take my car(02 Maxima GLE) into the service dept because my engine was making a clicking noise everytime i drive it so they wanted to keep it overnight. This is my very FIRST BIG PROBLEM ive had ever since i bought it. Next day comes around and i get a phone call late afternoon from the service dept. guy telling me that the 2nd cylinder has been damaged BIG TIME along wit da pistons and other things. As he was telling me things that i didnt wanna hear he then tells me that instead of rebuilting the engine he talked to NISSAN and they said there gonna put in a BRAND SPANKIN NEW 2004 ENGINE!!!! I was so excited because not only am i getting a NEW engine but its not gonna cost me anything!! so basically im getting a BRAND NEW CAR which is awesome!!! I'd like to THANK Johansen's Salem Nissan in Salem OR. They are the GREATEST!!! I always get the best service EVERYTIME I GO. ALOT of these other Nissan dealers i read about on the ORG should really take notes on customer appreciation like Salem Nissan.

That's great news. I wish all Nissan dealerships provided that level of customer service.

Wow, that's good they are putting a new engine. How many miles does it have before they discovered the problem with the piston?

Wow, thats great news. I wish the dealerships around here where that good. Even the best Nissan dealership within a reasonable distance (45 min. drive) is pretty crappy, but if you give them a piece of your mind they bend over backwards to kiss ***. These are some of the reasons that are making me want to get my parents to buy an Infiniti for their new car when the time arises because of customer service alone.

I think it's still the same basic engine so I would think sticking that in a 02 Max doesn't really mean 270 HP because the 04 Max has a different exhaust set-up among other things. I could be completely off base here since I'm not a Nissan tech, if so, flame away.

Why did the engine fail?? This isn't another case of those screws coming off the butterfly and going into the engine is it??

Kewl but more than likely it is a brand new 02/03 Engine not an 04 engine, it would be way to much work for them to put an 04 engine in. They have different mounting points etc.

YEP, TRUE TRUE its a 2002 or 2003 Spec engine made in 2004, but anyway its a NEW BRAND NEW ENGINE
NEW: as in NEVER USED, NEVER DRIVEN, NEVER TOUCHED.

Question, So now what if at 36,000 miles theres something wrong with the engine will there be an extended warranty on that engine????
Its new you never know if some crazy ensambler forgot to put a screw, Only time will tell!~!!!!

The engine should be covered under the powertrain warranty which is 60k miles or 60 months.

You are very lucky. I got pretty lucky myself but not from a Nissan dealership. I bought my 2000 SE with 71,000 miles and the night I bought it the oil light came on and the engine started making a horrible metal to metal screaching and died. I called the used car lot I bought the car from and the guy had my car towed back to him (60 miles). Diagnosed the problem and told me the engine was ruined. He told me he would replace the engine and even let me find the replacement. Got a 50,000 mile motor and didn't pay a pennie.

Edit : the guy even let me keep the old engine for parts, and kevlo911 is using it to do his VI manifold swap on his 4th gen.

make sure that the dealer gives you in writing that the engine is not used, rebuilt, or remanufactured, but brand new in a crate, and have them give you a document w/warranty on it.

Most likely... otherwise, why would Nissan replace an engine just like that? Scary... Enjoy the new engine.
